SP-Battles

Ok, now that the voting is over here's what I have for rules. If anyone has any serious problems with these just leave a comment. You could PM me but if we're gonna make changes I'd prefer for everyone to be able to follow the logic. Anyway here we go...

1. All SPs only SPs. all chops, all sequencing. External mastering (E.Q., compression) is ok but don't rearrange anything. The exception to this is if any of the SPs have a useable time stretch feature that is disallowed to be fair to the ones that don't have it.

2. Winner of previous battle either picks / posts sample/s or designates someone else to. They may either post one sample / song as source material or a sample plus a breakbeat.

3. Only use elements posted for the battle. No extra drums from your library, etc. Anything left in your machine after you initialize the memory is fine.

4. Contest runs for one week. Voting runs for three days. Vote for somebody else, and explain your logic.

@lif: That's why i made the poll by myself, I think Kiyani had not the time or whatever... sometimes it's happen but it's not a big deal yo.

About to explain the logic, i miss the time when everyone spoke about every beat with a short description of what they felt... It's cool to have all the opinions and it should be obligatory.

I vote 4rizona4l. This piece lazy laid back electronica reminds me of blithe field. He used SP-404 a lot. Check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL76LB9Fg60. Nice contrast to all lo-fi beats the rest of us are making

@hello pillow - yo, we all aren't so sleepy!

srsly, it's one thing to be "laid back" where everything and everyone is cool all the time...sweeeet, exhale..yeh. I dig it.

Then there's just pure practicality. A week wait for samples and a nearly two-week submission period on the SPBB just sucks the momentum out of the battleflow. Stretching the sub-period didn't exactly double the submissions... a lot of interest had been built up from two or three battles ago with like 25 entries. Things go in waves of course, but having an actual deadline and an actual sample to flip rather than some random youtube-links , well - the result of all that is pretty obvious.

Follow that up with a five day poll, it's not me that's trippin'... like I said, thank goodness for the MWB.

I think this forum shows utmost respect to everyone and is probably the chillest forum in existence. In the year or so I've been playing the battles have seen super-respectful flexibility with the rules but honestly, this battle is so laid back it's like we all traded spliffs for a tube of glue.

Anyways, I'll give a vote to ARIZONA AL for pretty much the same reason as Gis. And cause I like compound-time sigs ( like the way it flips between a straight five-count and a 6+4=10... Ill )
