Had to flip a coin on the Chopperman & Ellaguru tunes. Both were great! Loved the bold use of pitch-shift & subtle chord chages in PADS (best drum sound of the round too). Ellaguru's subtle take was sick too, those filtered & panned chords are '96 era DJ Shadow class. But that rhythm... Damn! Sounds like a South American dance, but gloomy.

The coin picked Chopperman.

Props to everyone who had a crack at this round too! Gotta admit I sat out 'cause I wasn't feeling the samples at all, much prefer getting full songs than tiny snippets. So respect to everyone for getting the job done. Dunno if anyone discussed this in the other BB157 thread... Bring on SPBB158!

As a total newbie I don't really know if I'm worthy of a vote. But I did anyway. Many interesting styles and textures. I especially liked IIIII's dirty white noise groove, Ellagurus dark mysterious roominess and Locksmiths second beat - but my favourite turned out to be Chopperman for maximizing my "head-nodding".

And well, since I've just started learning my 404sx my goal was to send in a submission. Couldn't make it to the deadline and it certainly isn't up to par with the level you're all at. But a first attempt at chopping nevertheless.

I thought I read in a FAQ somewhere don't publish your first beat.

iiiii - nice noise, very rough
locksmith - that second part is pure beauty

very close between IIIII, locksmith, chopperman, jade, marcogrouch as i said before, difficult...
