a standalone unit to record onto .. like cubase or MV8000/MV8800 .. (that has it's own linear sequencer screen to record audio)

Image

- MV's are hard to come by .. nd' i don't wanna resort back to pc/laptop if it's avoidable

any alternatives ?

cubase was the easiest n'd most work effective method for me to do tunes - other than the sp404sx (however i can't do vocal drops how i want without using another 404 or 303 to bounce shit back nd' forth with vocal + beat: layerring 1 takes)

any help is appreciated heavily .. 1 . 1

roland mc909 share a very similar workflow as the MVs serires (many patches to do), big screen too, piano roll sort of (microedit mode as on sp505/606 -plus graphical- and MV -i believe- ), 2fx simultaneously, samples recording while sequencer is playing, 4 tones per pad(in rhythm mode) etc...
one thing:the TR keyboard style maybe can fear you indeed (but you can bang drums/chops as any other mpc/sp etc)
Only works with 128max smartmedia but it has ubs connector

yamaha rs7000: the sampler mode is a bit contort/confusing on this, but i'm still learning...the sequencer is very useful/complete
pads way (not the same material) simlar as on sp505/asrx: keyboard style
Max 64mb with smartmedia or scsi port (don't know how max but i think many gigas)

MPCs: those are well known, but usually the fx (when they are in, depending on the model)on those are not very original. Mpc2000/2000xl: no resampling/no fx...

ok, but don't check only those techno videos on youtbe: this machine can do lot more; check the manual or the yahoo.group.
the 4tones mix trick (one knob that can mix 4tones or samples in one track: basically you can jump on WHATEVER point of 4 different samples turning one knob while sequencer is playing or not) and the matrix control (3 functions in one knob!) could really open new ways of composing and playing live. they were developped on mc909.org (but this is in french)...

other alterantives could be the mpc1000/2500 but obligatory with the jjos...

other thing
the loopremix function on the RS7000 is crazy!
