help me configure my patchbay ??

Ok, I just got a Behringer Ultrapatch Pro PX3000

without the patch bay I would run my Numark PT-01 turntable into my sampler, the SP-404, into Reason through my interface. When I sampled a break that I thought would benefit from being run through the sp-202 filters and/or lo fi settings, I would re-route the SP-404 into the SP-202 and the SP-202 into the interface... then resample the break and process it. Now, I would re-route the SP-202 back into the SP-404 and route the SP-404 back into the interface so that I can bounce the sample back to my SP-404 for further processing and then to upload to memory card

I just want to stop unplugging and rerouting my devices

can anyone help ?

In the back of the patchbay along the top, connect those to the outs of your devices. For each one underneath, connect those to the ins (if they have them). But before you do anything, try to imagine every possible routing scenario and take into consideration that they must be close enough for the cables to reach (and might get tangled).

In the front of the patchbay, you patch from up to down (out to in)...

So for example, if the turntable goes into 3&4, and you want to go into the SP, which is going to 5&6, you route the signal on the front from upper 3&4 to lower 5&6. You can keep chaining them together if you want.

now that you see what I want to achieve do you think that a patchbay is the way to go or is there a more simple way ?

If you have room for it, a patchbay can't hurt. It probably can cut your time in half if you do what you've described often.

I used have a ton of MIDI devices, keyboards etc. and it was all interconnected and slaved to each other, and I was sampling in and out of lots of sources (including reason) to 2 samplers... a patchbay was essential; otherwise I'd be too damn lazy to do anything. It was nice to just plug in whatever (guitar, VCR) and send it wherever, but I rarely touched my synths or used my rack FX... so I gave the patchbay to my buddy in exchange for a mic. These days I just have a simple daisy-chain arrangement and my 4-track serves as my recorder/mixer/patchbay.

But I wonder if a multi-type card reader can minimize the hassle between the 2 SPs? importing/exporting from your desktop...

well mostly this is about using the SP-202 to record samples when I want and to record them back to the 404 for some minimal processing and export.

Ideally, I want to switch, easily, between two configurations

Turntable>SP-404>SP-202>Interface
&
Turntable>SP-202>SP-404>Interface

but once I get working with the patch bay there will be a lot more outboard gear being introduced !
