Standalone beat production software

Does anyone know of any decent freeware standalone beat production units for software?
I read up on bpm 1.5 and I used to own maschine 1.6 but I wanted something simpler in setup and use. Plus those are payware.

a cool one could be Tunafish by bram boss, now free. it's a sequencer/sampler wich read vst/vsti. but don't expect too much also: it's very intuitive but lacks of many features of paying software. it saves in .wav or .mp3. you cannot record external instruments. it reads .wav.
not really a "boombap" soft but it's free.
think about it of a (very) poor version of fruity loops.

Does this have a feature to link up a midi controller?

yes you can play vsti or samples with external midi controller. you can choose this in the preferences. it's running on win7 64 bit too, i tested it.

Audacity is another good one and it's totally free. i never test if it has "boombap" capacities, indeed. i just recorded something into it. it's cool as multitrack recorder/sequencer but i don't know for the midi side...i think it has to have some sort of piano roll...
@Mohzus
another limit of Tunafish is that you can tweak/record vstis movement, but it's not the same for the vsts: the synths/sequencers/samplers/drum machines (the VSTIS) are ok, the fx (the VSTS) are just applied "as is", their eventual tweaking is not recordable...

ya really just something to arrange my chops in a sequencer and export the track is all i need.
good looks though
i used to have maschine, cubase, reason a while back but im looking to keep it simple and low key or lo-fi :D
i was really making overly produced tracks for some local guys with sweeping synths and 808's but it got old quick.
ha maybe this is my cleansing period where i just go minimal and find my music soul again. :idea:

a "free workflow" sort of thing could be this:
record beats/vsti synth on Tunafish then export a .wav of that beat and rearrange the whole thing on Audacity by adding live (external) sync recordings...
edit
damn, i discovered that Audacity doesn't supports midi sync...
