Wordsound is definately a great source for lofi and illbient shit.

the Various Artists "CERTIFIED DOPE, VOLUME 1" is great
Spectre "the illness" (super dope instrumental hiphop)
Dubadelic " a bass odissey" (not really hiphop but ok)
Prince Paul "PSYCHOANALYSIS: WHAT IS IT?" (from de la soul to...?)
The Bug "TAPPING THE CONVERSATION" (not hip hop, only great music! from kevin martin and other- instrumental claustophobic hiphop...do you know Techno Animal? check also their album with some antipop consortium, dalek, alias vocals)
BILL LASWELL/STYLE SCOTT "DUB MELTDOWN" (deep dub from two influent people from n.y.)

....in the middle of the '90 that was really dope....
wordsound is a great label, i discover it's still alive!
http://www.wordsound.com/catalog/wordsound.html

we can add also:
Antipop consortium (not real low fi but truly interesting)
Dalek (indie hiphop at his best)

peace

Ah you know The Brotherhood of the Bomb  a killer production IMO, probably not everybody's idea of hiphop but me likes it a lot.

yes!
that's what i talked about before, so i autoquote what i've said:
The Bug "TAPPING THE CONVERSATION" (not hip hop, only great music! from kevin martin and other- instrumental claustophobic hiphop...do you know Techno Animal? check also their album with some antipop consortium, dalek, alias vocals)
...i had forget the title... :) ...good to know that someone knows this album...the bug album intead is only instrumental but really dark and obscure, a reinterpretentation of the o.s.t. "the conversation" from f.f. coppola...have you seen it?

nope but I do have the 2 last Bug albums, Pressure and London Zoo which are pretty amazing, Same goes for the complete works of Mick Harris (ex-Napalm Death) under his Scorn moniker, minimalistic drum and bass heavy dark-hop.

casual - fear itself
smif n wessun - dah shinin
mr.len - tribute to company flow
black moon - enta da stage
redman - dare iz a darkside
big L - lifestylez ov da poor & dangerous
handsome boy modeling school (prince paul and automator) - so...how's your girl
chino XL - here to save you all
