The New MPC "Renaissance" for 2012

Did some sound designing for the unit. It's not bad although at this time it's not pushing past maschine...

They are set to take the market if pull their heads outta their asses as Native Instruments, Arturia and Akai (with their mpds) have done all the ground work

The market and the needs of the market are there.. Akai just needs to listen

Wait... So you did some sound design for Akai? OK- so usually that kind of work comes with pay, right? Biting the hand that feeds isn't always the wisest move if you want more work...

They just dropped another video for a new device. If the Renaissence is the new 2500, then this thing's the new 1000. Still uncertain, but its a cool idea. Gotta compare it to Maschine or P606 first!

Comes with great pay actually... it's not biting the hand that feeds me at all it's speaking the truth.. Numark knows how bad their past software was and the bad taste that was put in fans mouths..that's not secret .. I've been doing sound stuff for akai since the mpc 500's release.. they are fully of aware of their designers concerns and biases toward certain aspects of the company..

I'm all about the hardware-software integration.

I'm not about the price, US$1299. $599 for the Studio.

I don't own much in the way of computery-music junk and I've been considering the Maschine for a while but all this hoopla just makes me want to go back to my MPC, SP and crappy synths and make some good old fashioned beats. None of this junk is worth the $$$ to me right now.

the only reason i still use my 808 is because of the effects. The MV is in the closet and the 404 is the centerpiece with all my sounds on my iphone and my ipad just to grab drums quickly from beatmaker and find a synth sound pretty fast.

I'm always interested in the "new" thing, but this though, I'm just not that excited about. One of my homies heard it was gonna go for a base price of $1300 , but nothing official yet. Like I said before, with whats out there for synths and what not, a producer could possibly have the best synth ever on just his computer. But....when it comes to sample based stuff, for me its still turn on and do a beat, with as few go betweens as possible. My sample based stuff usually doesn't see a computer until its time to convert to MP3, but hey, it could be dope though.

That's exactly how I think about it too. I don't want to scroll through menus and folders on a PC to get a sample loaded and a beat done. I want to get on it right away, use as little knobs, buttons or commands to get all the preparations out of the way.

To be fair this does mean that I will have to live with a couple of features less here and there as software really has overtaken hardware feature-wise, but that never bothered me much.

I do use software VSTis from time to time and this very much means I've essentially have the best of both worlds together with my MV8800.

Doesn't mean there aren't good or better alternatives thinkable that provide such a work-flow and combination better, but for 1300$ I'd definitely pass on the Renaissance. Don't forget it's mostly just a very expensive software controller for that, even when it does come with a bunch of I/Os the Maschine doesn't have.
