i know i may have come across as dissing hip hop...no thats huge misunderstanding, i want more guys like EL P and Aesop rock...and more different stuff too

springwater's original question: how to resample as a way to not have time stretch suck as hard.

one thing to try rather than time-stretching:

sample a break. put yr 'mark' points around lil sections of it. then resample those little sections out to individual pads (yes this is just chopping). put some reverb on them before resampling, so you get a little tail and stretch the hits a bit.

you can then record these chops into a sequence at a different bpm than the original break. if the dif-bpm break doesn't sound like the original, you can fill in the gaps with other sounds, or by re-triggering a part (say, stuttering a kick, or reversing a snare that then leads to a normal snare hit) and fill in the blanks.

make sense?

another thing to remember is that you can hit resample, then play a beat just with these chops just with yr fingers. as in, live. you then stop recording and set yr 'mark' points around that beat. this beat is then a single sample and can save you more polyphony than if you built a sequence. this can then be further built upon with other sounds, or with the SAME chops, placed in different places on the beat.

i forgot what i even asked a few pages ago. i understand resampling has alot of different ways to use it and different benefits. i just thought id get a crash course in some of its benefits cause im a learning bug. kind of like a pak rat of knowledge. but uh, its like the thunderdome in here. its crazy! 2 men enter no man leaves this post.
but i like all the debate, hip hop is in this weird limbo for me, but im all about the classic style of hip hop and breakbeats. i mean EL-PRODUCTO and AESOP ROCK are great at what they do but im like, "wtf???"
it has to be some appeal there for me to stay interested. they have the signature style and no appeal. but they are evolving, in what dimension, thats the question.

i disagree on this. a lot of paintings commissioned by the church were amazing and not soulless at all. i think the art inspired by religious imagery is quite inspiring and magnificent. but that is a different discussion altogether.

tbh although some people may have viewed the discussion on the stagnation of hip-hop as retarded or irrelevant, i actually quite like the fact that people like hurlingdervish are openly questioning the lack of innovation in art. it is through these challenges that things move forward.
