Good info, thanks.
So how much according to you would the machine be worth in dollars, secondhand and mint condition?

the one i take is in mint condition, almost new. with manual. no acdc adaptor (i can find one for 5€). it costed 175usd(119€) without shipping price.
i think the good price is 120€(no packeging)/150€(with original packeging) max.
unfortunately i've found 2 mc-09 here in france for 200€ and 280(!)€...

Hmm, I'd pay up to 700 dollars for a secondhand RS7000 (well, maybe more). But it should come with the memory maxed out (64mb), and preferably the I/O expander board - not so much for the many outs but for the digital i/o. Come to think of it I'd probably be willing to pay up to a thousand bucks for it.

I was wondering about both, so that's alright.
Wow, even a thousand bucks?

Well, it'd have to be in mint condition and including the i/o board + max ram. But, yeah

I'd say though, that for a first time user, shelling out a thousand dollars for this unit would probably cause some frustration at first. I know the box pretty well so a little less 'risky' in that matter.
Are you considering one? You can probably get one for about 600 dollars on ebay.

Yeah, I had been looking at them, but anything over 300€ is off limits for me. I'm not looking for something to replace my MV8800 and MC-808 combo, but instead thought it would be a neat more old school toy to mess with. Guess I've underestimated the machine's potential. I mean sure I did see some amazing beats being made on YouTube with them, but so do people with the SP-404 or MPC500.
I think I have probably more use for an SP-404SX though, as I can then make beats on the go ( I travel a lot ).

i forget you have the mc-808...if you got that, don't even look at the mc-09...they're like water and fire...do the mc-808 got acid sounds and other synths? does it sample? if the answers are "yes", let go the mc-09, i think...plus, the mc-808 got a "track recorder style" too, if i remember well...and, i hope it got a more efficient editing mode for samples...

Yeah, you are right. The MC-808 basically is in another league, but when it comes to sample editing, I prefer using my MV. The MC-808 editing works best using the PC software program that comes with it, but it's not exactly user friendly and straight forward.... but it works.
Thanks for your insight, I appreciate it.

the mc-09 is a good emulator of the glorious tb-303; many says that. the audio looper side also is a good thing, and the (not many) effects too. but i think that this machine is more a maker of phrases than other. you cannot build songs with it. only patterns.
the fact that you are limited push you however to be creative and straight.
froma an esthetical view i have to say also that this machine is one of the best designed by roland.

thanx drewzle!
anyway i think i fixed the chop trouble: if you work with loopctrl+seqrec you can record better the new "chop loop".

I'm scoring this for just $100. It didn't came with a power supply or memory card. Power supply just ran me $8, and the memory card came out to about $22 for 2 16mb SM cards. That reminds me, I better print up the manual here at work for free..

(Yes, I've heard it's a horrid manual)

So my MC-09 came in yesterday. I think the reason they sold it so cheaply was because the lcd was kinda burned out, and the sample/audio in functions don't seem to work. But it does play/work for the most part, but everything the manual said to do to copy and use incoming audio just doesn't seem to apply to this thing. Sometimes, I guess when you get what looks like a good deal, sometimes is not. I'll just use it for what it is, a tb303 clone and simple drum machine, and I can just use the other memory card I bought for this get used in the sp505 I should be picking up friday.

it's a pity that the IN doesn't works, because i remember that the mc09 got very nice filters, maybe the best i've heard from roland...(but you've got resampling)...try to see if the audio in is repairable, who knows...
