Hmm maybe I would try to go for an MPC1k here. If you used to own an MPC1k, I really think you will be disappointed in the end with the MPC500.
Not to mention reselling value seem to be quite crappy. In my country they go for about 200€ secondhand. If you get lucky you might make a profit from buying it for 200€ and selling it for a little bit more, but chances are slim. I have to add that 200€ is about the maximum I would pay for an MPC500, so it's not actually all that bad I guess if you could live with the 500.
Anyway, since making music is your main goal here hahah, sure you can make beats on it, no doubts there, but the MPC1k is an exponentially better machine.
I don't know about your monthly income and all that, but saving 50 bucks in a month should be realistic, right? Just put it in a box and forget about it for one month, then do the same another month and you might be able to score a better machine that would suit you better.
I mean, assuming you're all done moving already. I know that shit is expensive.
I don't quite know what to recommend someone on a tight budget like that though. I'd hunt eBay and the likes for a good deal or assuming you've got a steady cashflow coming in, I would really recommend to save up some more.
Peace.

So I'm back at 0.
Spent 2hours in a store with the 500. They even gave me the opportunity to load my own samples, made a beat, liked it. (Maybe I got a new job over there... !)
The structure of the menus is built up pretty logic (if you used a mpc before), I like the size and portability (1k's aren't portable at all) and the actual feel from the outside but I just can't spent 350,-; that's what the dude is asking for... (Paid 550,- a year ago...)

like i said , if you "joked" yet with a 1000, the 500 is not a bad thing. maybe the volume is not very high and the pads too hard, personal opinion.
anyway, good buy.
peace

I don't know the person personally, but if you'd like to I could probably get it and meet you in Amsterdam. Depending on a few factors, like when you'll be here and íf I'm able to cop it for you ( I don't have 200€ laying around at the moment though, but I'm sure we could work something out ).

Another thing is which size has a average pc hard disc?
3,5" or 2,5" ...got a 60GB HD laying around but I dunno the size...

Deasktops harddrives are commonly 3.5", pretty sure the MPC 1k requires a 2.5" which is what you find in laptops.

yo Wax i've got a 2500, and the 1000 is the EXACT same machine with the jj os. (you will however want to upgrade to 128 mb internal, about 100 bucks i think) except smaller pads and bendy screen. You gotta get either one of those, in my opinion if you want an MPC cuz the akai os is wiggety wack.
talk about fast and accuratechopping! check this dope technique out...

plus you can use it as a multitracker for you sp stuff (sp-outs to mpc in, just hit record).... syncs perfect. having audio trax is great on the mpc... plus great asdr, ping-pong/crossfade looping
