i didn't find what "automation" in the D2 meant, but i think i finally found what you meaning: maybe you wanted to say the "Hold" function? this function it's real DOPE! i tryed it this night, it's pretty cool with XY Filter! you can at last apply XY Filter to all the parts you want.

I found a D2 local, but I don't have the cash right now and the guy isn't interested in trades. It's only $150, but I just bought a sampletrak, a smartmedia card, and an iphone so my gear fund has been depleted. I'll make the most of what I got for now, but I really "want" a synth type groovebox.

zoom sampletrak it's DOPE! i failed buy it 2 times, but i got an sp-303/404 so it's too much for me, but its sound is gritty and fresh!

I'll make the most of what I got for now, but I really "want" a synth type groovebox.

D2 it's ok with a midi synth or nanosynth; other good grooveboxes: mc-303 (but it sound more '90/acid/gritty), mc-505 (big dimensioned),mc-307(don't know well), dx-200 and an-200(the last two are from yamaha)and korg electribes emx and other ones i don't remeber their nemes.

copped me a D2 last week - despite its looks it is a really nice bit of kit. sytnh tones are top notch, especially with the MC-505 Editor via computer

@ its vinyl features though....the cheap nasty sound clips of scratches = instant fail

multi-fx are great, very similar to SP-404 but expanded features

D2 is a _SICK_ machine, the synth sounds are super huge. some of the wobbles i'm getting have to be heard to be believed.

just discovered the second LFO last night that MC505 Editor really adds heaps of features to the synths (2 x LFO, LFO Sync, 4 part EQ, etc) it's fucking incredible.

one drawback - can't mute drum tracks at same time as muting instrument tracks. i'm using CC# 7 to mute instruments via padKontrol and leaving D2 on Drum Mute view to remedy this

why can't you mute the drum tracks at the same time? could you explain this better please?

^ can't mute drum tracks because it uses the same buttons in a different 'view' - ie, what happens if you want to un-mute the hi-hat pattern AND synth 4 at the same time?

simply connect the D2 via MIDI to your PC and start dialing up patches. start with a waveform (D2 has all the MC505's 'forms) then sculpt it with 3 envelopes (each with Env Depth, Env Veloc Sensitivity), 2 LFOs, Portamento time, key follow, etc

you use the D2 with the bd+sd+hh+ etc channel plus the 1+2++3+4 etc synth channels? how do you do that? i always wanted to know how to do it, i dindn't look weel the manual...
personally i record and sequence notes to the D2 via a yamaha qy70 (or whatever) and i tend to leave 1 or 2 channel to add rythmic elements.

yeah man, hit Pattern Select and Pattern Mute together and you enter the Rhythm Mute view, each of the buttons which normally mutes a single synth in regular Mute view now mutes a section of the drum track (MIDI 10)

i always send this track externally to trigger my SP, you get 8 different mute groups (can't change the notes that those mute groups cover though)

glad you found the editor - how sick is it? the D2 really is the guts of the MC505, and when you have a decent MIDI controller, there's very little difference

Hmm, it would be really cool if Roland released an upgraded version of the D2. Seeing how the Korg Kaossilator sells, a real (editable) synth should sell even more (given the price isn't too high, of course).

ok, yes, with midi controller it could be easier...
never controlled with it indeed.
