Isn't this possible with the Kaoss Pad 3?
I like the Kaossilator, and will be buying it asap. It's fun, portable and cheap. Coupled with a sampler, such as one of the SP's, the Kaossilator is a great little soundsource. Maximum respect to Korg for this one!

nah i wish the kp3 had it. as far as i know it doesn't, its just midi thru and to control the samples.

but yea if you can break apart the notes by sampling you can get great results no doubt, but still i need precision when im trying to get my ideas out

The Xiosynth is a bit more expensive, but it's definitely a great synth.

The MicroKorg packs enough different sounds to be worth the money and they have a good secondhand price being popular as they are, but I would perhaps look into the Xiosynth these days. (Mind you though, I never actually owned a Xiosynth, only the MicroKorg).

The nice thing of the Xiosynth is it's native support for much more midi related stuff, without losing the real synth stuff that you can tweak like crazy.

i would go with the xio just for the bigger keys and synth editing capabilities

keys felt pretty good on the xio, I was surprised when I had a play at how firm they were.
Also it acts as a basic USB audio interface too.

I'd really like to get one - an sp404 and a xiosynth25 would make a mean portable set of gear that you could fit in a backpack.

Actually I'd consider a microkorg XL as well - except is has this weird black plastic 'tray' around the edge of the case... WTF? I need to check one out in the flesh, to see if I could sand this plastic rim shit off it.

yeah, but it seems people are critical about the MicroKorg XL though. Perhaps it's mainly just the MicroKorg tech inside? edit: Apparently not, but it does have a bunch of Kaoss Pad tech inside. By the way, it has no reverb?! Weird.

all seems great to me,
onboard reverb is usually shitty anyway haha! I have a shit-cheap behringer reverb pedal that actually does some quite nice reverbs.

the biggest draw of the MK XL is that it has 2 separate synth parts,
in this way its kinda like the korg R3 (in fact it's probably very very very similar to the korg R3 inside haha)
