Favorite SP unit?

i've got a sp202, sp404 and now an sp505. i should buy shares!

i use the 404 for performance cuz its such a rugged beast. but while i'm only just getting used to it, i think my fave SP is the 505.

the comment ^^ above about it being an mpc-lite is pretty accurate in all honesty....but i also have a mpc1K and VASTLY prefer the workflow and speed of the 505 to the 1K.

little things like a single-button press and easier naming / filing directories are the difference between being creative and being super careful to not overwrite yr stuff. also, fx selection and manipulation with knobs is far preferable. with the 1K i always feel like i'm doing defrags on a server or something.

my two requests for ALL SPs IN THE FUTURE are 'pitch' and 'pan' as knob-turnable options.

also: a free SP for every 3 purchased.

^The 505 is definitely ill.

I recently copped one and have been lovin it. My previous point of reference is the 555... which I still have and would also endorse 100%. Can't really pick a favorite because they both have their strong points... and both are dope.

Things I miss on the 505 are the super filter, and the speed of resampling/moving samples without having to go through any menus to do so. Generally, everything moves a lot faster on the 555 so once you are used to it you can really get in the zone and not have to wait for anything to process. It allows for some crazy spurts of creativity/productivity. Moving through long samples is the one exception. The 505's graphic display allows you to kindof fast forward through samples to find the part you want. The CF cards also seem a lot faster than the ones for the 505.

Things the 505 has me stoked for are the increased pad banks.... the OG vinyl sim... really nice pads... and the 4 track seq. Even though the menus and graphic interface slow things down significantly, they're all very intuitive and easy to figure out. It's definitely not as rugged as the 404/555 though as far as build quality & exterior materials.

The clipboard is dope. It definitely is easy... no menu to deal with there, but the processing time takes much longer than copying/moving files on the 555. Same with deleting samples. You gotta stare at the processing bar for a couple seconds... which adds up to minutes pretty quick... while on the 555, with a fast CF card, it's almost instantaneous.

And the menu on the resample function for the 505 is slower than resampling on the 555 without any menu.

ide love a 555 with auto chop and a screen that can edit my start and end points by seeing the wav on a screen ...much easier than doing it by ear even though i dont mind i still love this 555 yo.

ah yeah. for sure, the processing time is hilarious. i just usually hit whatever button then have a drink, pet the cat, build a grandfather clock, grow a beard, and then boom - there's my file. heh.

ha ha! yeah dude... well put. TV breaks for me. I've been working from the living room couch on the coffee table for that very reason.

303 has 2 internal pad banks and 2 external , so a total of only 4 banks , over 8 pads per bank , so a total of 32 samples max can be loaded at once.

yeah ^^ that's exactly it. the 404 is faaaaast, and when i got the 505 i was actually surprised how fast it was given how many peeps had said it was slow. THEN i got a 128 sm card, and the ol Five-Oh ground to a glacier pace. ha ha. what's the matter, Five-Oh? Too many donuts?

so in part its the internal mem, but it has SOOO much to do with the card speed too.
