yeah 2/3rds is pricey. i would check local shops as well.
Mike, i would like to here the samples, i'm sure they will be good but.......
calm down man, you got the dream job (at least for the forum users here). if you break your roland .....whatever.....; you can just get a new one. but someone who doesn't have this luxury pays hard earned money for the product that's keeping you fed, yeah. i had a mpc1k that F&%$ed up on me while it was still rather new. guess what, i'll probably never buy akai again. and honestly the knods on my 404 are getting loose which seems a little early but at least it's given a few years.
anyway what's up with build quality these days? i have a sp-808 and a dr. 202 that have more solid knobs than the 505 and 404's i have which are both newer.
and bishojo, i honestly doubt mike has the final say on anything or knows the diagram layout specs. of either machine, no offense to mike but dude is an EMPLOYEE at the end of the day. i'm sure he would love to be the owner/ceo but he's not, right?

Im more than thankful and blessed everyday for my career BUT this guy started at me like i knew what he was talking about. Apparently he posted a question in Roland Clan and nobody answered it. Now how that relates to me , i have no clue.
I would have been more than willing to answer his question here or at least try and find out had he been polite with me. Most people know at the other forums i post on , i always try and help people out even if i dont have the answer ill see what i can do to find out.
Im not an engineer so detailed specs about motherboards and chips used i may not always know off the top of my head. Im just a product specialist and clinician not an engineer.
Most likely though when i first spoke with Japan about the 555 it uses a completely new chip for DSP processing and sampling , hence the better MFX algorithms and loop capture as well as USB audio interface. With all that said i highly doubt its the same main board. Highly unlikely that it is.
Theres your answer ! See a simple cool collective thought from someone and you get results.
As far as the quality of the build in new products ??
Well my friend , EVERYONE wants " ALL the bells and whistles " for practically nothing.
So with that consumer mentality , it forces alot of companies to use less expensive parts to keep the cost of the unit down. In the end , as they always say , " you get what you pay for ".
Ive never really heard of any issues with the build quality of the SP samplers. There pretty rugged but as with all electronics things can happen and boards fry. Its the nature of the beast called ..... electronics.
