Not exactly a trick but last week i was in my hometown and I had just received my sp.
I had no sounds to work at all with so I started whistling through mic, then truncating the samples adjusting start/end randomly and then using the pitch mode.
Then I added distortion (tone knob on the right) or other effects and got some cool synth sounds that resembled distorted flute or organ, or even lead synths!
Sounds a bit childish but it worked beautifully

Don't know if this is posted since it is very obvious, but I got frustrated by the long time I had to wait between I hit "sample" until I could actually choose a pad to sample onto and hear the input source.

I had a 128MB card in the 505, and figured out that the 505 sort of "scans" (or something) the card the first time you want to sample. So I took out the card, and then it was way more immediate.

So now I leave the card out in the sessions, and if I need to store or load something I turn the 505 off, insert the card, and then turn it on again. Next time I want to sample I leave the card out the 505 again (of course). No more waiting!
