I like the idea proposed about a week or so to do the beat, but then shorten the poll since its the same 10-15 ppl voting and doing beats anyway.
I know some of you guys are speedy as hell on the flip but I tend to chop one day, maybe fiddle around with composition one day then finally do patterns and effects - I did it all once in a day but usually my attention span/ interest in the beat wanes or I have other shit to do so I spread it out.
Another thought - I don't really see a problem with a couple Open Challenges at once, or even call it something else, sort of like I assume the MK / SF2 battles were. For example, would be cool to see a vinyl battle #2, battle based just on found sounds from mic , another video game soundtrack battle, and so on.
