Yeah, for anyone's who's even mildly interested in Pro Tools, I would very much recommend to just go with Reaper instead. It's obviously cheaper and it's also doing a fine job at becoming an ever more important player in the industry. Because it is that good.

As to the OP, you probably want both programs. You'll see. Once you get your game up, you'll definitely need a WAV editor like Audacity. They become very important in focusing on zero-crossings and tweaking the sound in a more "static" way than trying to keep up with a DAW that has entire mixes loaded into it. Most pros have two computer screens, one with their DAW/Sequencer and one with a fine editing program (Maybe SoundForge, Wavelab, etc...)

This post totally saved my ass. I'm over here working hard to save up a little bit of money just to get an Mbox 2. I see that Reaper (discounted) licenses are only $60??
