i think for the open challenges you are able to put your own spin on it... like right now we have the accapella theme. i think you can use whatever equipment you like for those, or maybe you can add your own sounds or whatever as long as you incorporate the og samples in there somehow. i guess whoever wins makes the new rules for the new battle.
as for the sp-battles, i think maybe you can use outside compression or normalizing, but otherwise it's strictly SP. so far, all my entries have been 404 out the box, but it really doesn't make a difference to me if you're using 1, 2, or 3 SPs to get the job done, as long as they are SP with no outside samples or synths. and no software wave editing or multitracking. oh yeah and no lasers
btw, nice beat Blacksnow.

what's the main difference between OC and Battles? i noticed they became the same thing...sp samplers only...2 samples...where's the meaning of OC, then? i remember at the beginning it was more "open" than now...we added samples, used synhts, other samplers,fx etc etc
The main difference is that the SP battles are SP-only and always exclude external sample usage. Open Challenges, depending a bit on the rules set by last winner, will usually include the use of external samples.
The current Open Challenge is almost over I think, perhaps the next one should include external sample use again.

Yeah, we can put up a poll tomorrow to end it, deadline has passed already too, right. Too bad there are only two entrants though.

eh it's my fault. everybody's flipped those drums and the sample's a bit repetitive.

Don't feel bad about it, it's pretty damn difficult to predict whether a sample will be 'easy to flip', at least in my experience.

There's always a next battle.

( .. also, I messed up with my smiley in that previous post, I am not angry at all.

Oops. nope, I was mistaken.
