For those who have it, how are the pads. I understand theyre just buttons but I would rather bang out beats on my computer keyboard than a padkontrol. Just my preference, so how are they?

They aren't pads at all. They're clicky hard plastic buttons. Sort of like a [Shift] key but they don't really depress down any.

yeh, jus plastic buttons. they are fine if you jus press them, can play out drum loops with ease pressumin they chopped right. but if you start banging them i doubt they would last too long.

i nearly sold it a few weeks back, so glad i didn't as this thread made me get it back out. alot of fun to use, also sample into my 900 then load the same disc up into the s20.

Im having a problem with my akai s20, when I sample onto it, and press one of the pads, it sounds all glitchy and distorted, any idea why?

there may be some thing wrong with the ram that you have in it. this has happened to me.

is it every time you sample anything?

or is it when you load stuff?

also to whoever asked about the buttons;

i like the buttons, they are large plastic click buttons with leds next to them. they are responsive and dont need to be hit hard. i have owned 6 s20s they all still work except one. i only have 2 (one working and the broken one) of the 6 the other 4 where given to people i know who borrowed them to learn and got hooked on some fiend shit. the only reason the one is broken is because on 9-11 2002 me and my dude sloth hooked our s20s up to a pa system output to sample through a mic and fried our shit. one after the other much like two towers of raw phrase sampling power.
