thanks for the all the different points - I've crossed out the mpc I believe, sampletrak or 555....
or BOTH! sampletrak, 555, 303
plus... i need to spread my money. I need some monitors as well, something that will help the overall outcome of my mixes.
So do I need an MPC????

i never use the 2kxl with the 404. I just use the 404 by itself and the mpc stays in the box. I believe the only fx the standard 2kxl comes with is a low pass filter. You can also adjust the pan(if thats considered fx). Nope i never used any kind of outboard memory.

if you go the cash get a 1k with jj. i got my extra ram for 20 quid. put a 2gb cf card in there and your all good. im only rocking os1 as it gets the job done. the fx aren't all that, but again get the job done if it's all you got. plus i love the fact you can have 2 filters per pad and link them up.
since i got the 404, i only do drums on the mp (as it's unbeatable with the layering/simult options/swing/chops), seq with the 404 then i jus record the 404 outs as and audio track on the mp. then track to the 8track.
i love my mp.
