i use windows xp with cool edit pro to multitrack (its now called adobe audition). great multitrack, terrible for midi.

most dudes i know using windows use nuendo or cubase for recording, as it allows multitracking and has good midi capabilities, and most dudes i know on mac use cubase or protools.

and then there are the dudes rocking ableton live, which is a whole other thing....

again if you get a laptop, you should also invest in an external soundcard, as it will GREATLY improve yr fidelity.

u may be right but ive been with it for a year now and for a beginner its pretty good. is there any program that lets you dj and record songs seperatly all in one?

i got a ibook sitting around, that i have been debating on selling. Its 3 yrs old, but still works mint. I had a couple of problems (none that affected performance), but magically fixed itself. No idea how. Macs are the best for music .... or anything really. You should def look into investing in one. Even if it is used. I also have pro tools 7 which I am trying to sell, everything that came in and including the box. Doesnt work with my new mac unless I drop money on a new mbox and crap. If you are interested I'll maybe sell the comp. BUT I am not sure, PT yes, Ibook..Ehh. let me know and good luck.

the laptop is a dell, i fink.

i don't really use midi at all in recording. i only use pcs for recording multitrack stuff (which is why i use cool edit pro, and not nuendo....which i actually really like, for what that's worth).

deckadance has a record feature that lets you make djset/mixtapes pretty stress free you should definitely check it out. it may not be the "coolest" to some people but if you have a shitton of mp3s and want them beatmatched for your next car ride its definitely an amazing program.

Just look for DJ software that can run as a plugin or is Rewire compatible. Then you can just open it in your regular host/DAW/whatever.

To be honest any new laptop will have the basics to help you make music ! just a few things to remember if your serious about it then , an audio interface / extenal soundcard is a must ! if you can stretch to it i would recommend ABLETON LIVE 7 daw . And if you already have a 404 then you are ready to rock n roll my friend good luck
