sorry to highjack the ipod thread with more psp talk, but can anyone explain the hack / downgrade to me? can you still play games on umds, etc.?
and after the hack do you require using the wi-fi to install games n apps?

I've never tried, but from what I hear original UMD games won't run on hacked firmware.

Instead, most people seem to buy a big memory stick and put their games on that. Mind you, that obviously implies downloading games from the internet.

Apparently homebrew applications or freeware games and legally bought games can not run on the same (hacked) firmware. It's the number one reason why I never bothered to install a hacked firmware. I like my legal games, and although I don't own that many, I like them a bit too much to risk messing things up big time. :p

the only thing i've run into is if you've downloaded games from the PSN store, those don't work with the custom firmware. so, i just downloaded the games that i bought from other sources. i think you can rip your own games from your own UMDs too. it's way better not having to mess with UMDs anymore and it makes your batteries last longer.

Yeah... that app is pretty deep. I haven't figured out how to sequence within the program yet, but I've had a lot of fun sampling it into the SP.

I've been using hacked firmware on my psp slim for at least a year now. I play Tekken:DR and GTA:VCS from the UMDs almost daily. CFW (custom firmware) doesn't inhibit the fuctionality of the PSP at all, only adds to it. Gimme a few days and I'll try and write up a little guide or something for installing CFW.

@ hema - that's pretty rad, thanks! i'd be afraid of "bricking" the wee fucker tho. so i may just get a dude to do it for me. i'm just sorta trying to figger out the ins and outs of it all.

i'm playing gta: liberty & manhunter2 right now, so i don't even wanna lose my progress... lol.
