honestly my best advice ever, go for the Yamaha HS series...or MSP5s if you want 5 inchers, but foreal on the cheap monitor front the Yammys have it, even though they claim they are new NS10's which is a marketing ploy they are still the best monitors for the money...

I just got some dynaudios for a steal or i would have got the yammys..they are very cheap too!

and I can't wait to scoop that new microkorg! sell my axiom and get that, yes!
yo i just peeped these... def very nice, I think this is what I'm going for. "speak now or forever hold your piece" Im using that... so dont steal it.. ahahahah

definitely, the right set of 10's will crush 12's some ppl are just happy with sloppy(wack) bass.

skip on the crappies, I believe you can learn any monitor...that's the point, but in the cheaper range it goes HS and maybe Event ASP8's up to the 1,000 dollar range where everyone pretty much agrees it's Adam A7 vs. everyone else, but if you are looking used the old JBL LSR 8 inchers slam! I am still going to get a pair of those, they had a carbon fiber front plate...anyway, if you're talking new then it's like Adam A7 vs. Dynaudio and the others, then you get up to 1,500 or so and you have the newest Focal models which came out, the Dynaudio BM6A (look for the mk1's that are all black) and you start getting into the really nice un-powered speakers...blah, blah, blah...go to www.gearslutz.com and do a search on the model speaker you are wanting, but remember you'll need to do some room work (which you can make on the cheap on your own) to get any monitor to sound worth a shit...which is next on my list

sorry, I just woke up and am in a daze

oh, also have a look at Blue Sky (media desk? I think) they make relatively cheap 3 piece systems

Not so long ago I bought those HS 50 yamahas.
I must say that in comparison with my old speakers ( of course creative 2.1 set :) ) they're unbelievable :) I don't have much experience with other types of studio monitors but it seems that those are just enough for me :)
However, they have bass reflex "hole" on their back and they shouldn't be placed close to the wall, unlike rokits which have their "holes" on the front panel and their placement is not such important.

i have a pair of Events....powered, but sorry, i can't remember the exact models right now. anyway, they're great! they were pretty reasonable and i haven't had a single problem....i like the tonal flatness of them for accurate mixing, etc. so i put that out there.

on the other hand, i also i believe in yamaha as a company. so ^^ suggestions above for yamaha should be respected.

Dynaudio makes the components for other companies so you know they come correct.
