i struggle with this as well, but here's what i've learned.
my job -- like, my employment -- is linked to my creative output. therefore i strongly endorse the idea of just sitting there working for a set number of hours, whether yr feelin' it or not. like: respect it like work, and the output will come. worst case scenario, you at least have something roughed in that you can come back to when you are inspired.
waiting around for inspiration can often lead to a LOT of waiting.
however, i dig working w/ inspiration too, and repeatedly watch a vid of cLOUDDEAD playing live, mush tour 2002. to me: super inspiring.
and i'd recommend THIS BOOK to everyone. it handed me back my ass in sooooo many good ways. funny, inspiring and fun:

i'm having a hard time getting motivated lately too, i've been trying to push myself to record more music, learn to use the 404 a little more, draw and shit, anything creative but it's just not happening. i usually just come home from work, sit around, watch some shit, drink some beers, fall asleep. kind of a shitty cycle i've gotten myself into. the bleak weather definitely doesn't help either.

Caffeine, exercise, or my big trick, don't smoke for a while then blaze one. I recently had a huge dry spell and when it ended, man, I didn't have enough tape for the beats that poured out. Getting around to editing them is another story though.
Another thing I like to do is get rid of extra possessions. I theorize it focuses me on what's left. Imagine if all you owned was your gear, you'd probably make plenty beats right? Same idea.

oh yeah, that's cLOUDDEAD (well, "themselves") w/ the notwist.
that album is craaazy good. i saw themselves open for notwist here a few years ago and it was mind bending.
pretty much everything notwist touches amazes me, but paired with those freaks? fuuuuuuck....
