Believe it or not I got reasonably far in making a beat. I wasn't gonna let this one pass so I pulled out the 555 on Saturday and have been reading the manual as I go.

Unfortunately, without a card, I only have two banks to play with at most, and the first of those currently have the original factory samples loaded into it and I've no way to sysex the factory samples back if I were to temporarily free-up Bank A, so was only left with Bank B.

I got enough done to collect the basic samples I wanted for one part of the track, but eventually choked for pads when needing to resample etc, and I'm afraid I didn't plan ahead for that in the way a seasoned user would do it.

At least I got some decent SP practice in which is more than I ever have before! I had a lot of fun sampling the asylum girl from the first vignette, that lovely soft voice and those giggles of hers. I did some rearranging of various vocal samples and turned it into a song about a dodgy asylum where her promiscuousness led to her being used as a resident sex toy by the staff.

I'd have called it 'Asylum House Fuck Toy' if I'd finished and submitted it!

If I were to play it all live from Bank B I suppose it would work as a (very) primitive sketch of a track (and I might upload it after the battle if I do that). No way I'm submitting it though, it's far too primitive for that.

You already can. It was released yesterday and sold out in just one day. So now I'm looking to buy that small Gothic Revival house I've always wanted in the middle of nowhere! I'd say your chances of finding a copy are pretty slim, but see attached for a copy of the cover design!

I'm just kidding, it wouldn't work mate. It's perfectly possible to resample on the 555 even when you're completely out of pads (by copying back and forth between the looper). It doesn't help in my case though, because I need more than one version of the same sample in a lot of cases, and there's around 12 other samples I need to prepare and I just don't have the pads to put them on.

I couldn't resist either. I'm a sucker for stuff like that. I think it was a combination of the pale skin, scruffy hair, frilly dress, soft voice and that cheeky giggle that forced me to give it a go!

Anyway, looking forward to hearing the submissions and I wish I'd ordered a card now

Main sample from charlie boy 3:00 in, used flanger fx to get the variation on the second loop! Also used some talking from asylum, 29:24 in! Cant remember/forgot to write down where I got the other little bits that are played under the chords every now and again from but think it was from Asylum!

Hopefully hear some more entries!

Nearing the deadline for entries, has anyone got anything in the works? Could extend if needed. Thanks

If you want me to submit what I have, I'm ok with that as long as people recognise it'll be very short, no mixing, no mastering, and not even close to complete!

Seems a dumb thing to do to be honest, but I suppose I could give an idea of what I had in mind, so if you're ok with that just say the word and I'll see if I can come up with something basic by triggering them live.

Fucking computer, and people wonder why I refuse to involve these damn computers with anything music-making related at all!

I did get a basic thing going but I'm unable to record it to my computer. I've tried Linux and Windows and for some reason neither operating system can see the 'Input Device' part of my sound card!

Fuck knows what's going on there, mind you, I've never actually needed to record anything to my computer before, so I'm unsure what's causing it or even how long it's been like that!

Sorry bruh, but no loss. It could never be submitted for the battle even if I'd managed to get it uploaded, and I'm no longer officially a member of the forum anyway so it would be wrong to submit a beat or even vote. That said, it does sound as if Isihambi and Galochin might be working on something, so probably best to see what they say before ending the battle, and if no one enters then at least you get to set the next one!

Regards my own effort, I'll leave the samples in memory and might finish it off some time.

It's probably for the best mate, lol, it would have been very stark and boring like that anyway

I'll just have to get another card, cause then I get to finish it off properly and even transfer the finished track to my computer. I already have one of those CF Card Reader thingies, so no problem there at all. There's plenty of stereo polyphony on the 555 so all I have to do is record it directly on board to a single stereo pad, and drag it off the card using the card reader!

I really want this to be my first track (and I love the title I gave it), so mark my words I will finish it sooner or later, and I absolutely will upload it!

Yo!

Ashley, bro, I'm sorry.

I can't participate in this round, I'm on a trip.
I listened to all the samples, it's excellent.

Very cool samples, I'm really sorry. :(
