otbt wrote:For samples uploads i suggest Zippyshare.com. It's free, no registration needed, and audio can be listened. And when the link is posted, do it with something like SaMpS! to be distinctive.
About the samples length i was thinking the same, not longer than 30 sec. of song's slice or 30 sec. of different snippets (1-shots, loops, synths, drums, bass or whatever...)

For the start day and the time zone we can make a poll..?
Let's wait this week tho, no reason to hurry, maybe there will be other ideas, plus some samples will be dug :)

I said box because on zippy, the samples will disappear. With box we can have a big archive of all battles, i find that's cool

The idea of ! SAMPS ! is cool tho

We can try this monday (tomorrow) and see what it'll give...?

Also i think we need to recap the rules point by point, make it clear and understandable, and maybe make a sort of template to be copy-pasted in each battle?

Preliminary rules:

- weekly battle which starts on monday(?) (if winner(s) hadn't start the new battle, it can be done by anyone involved)
- the poll starts on late friday/early saturday and goes till late sunday/early monday(?) (if winner(s) hadn't start the poll, it can be done by anyone involved)
- who start the new battle create a folder in the Box account named "SPMB#..."
- each one can upload 1 sample to the Box account in the current battle's folder.
- the audio must be not longer than 30 sec. in wav or mp3, and can contain any material.
- post the sample's link to the battle tread and mark it with ! SAMPLE !
- winner(s) samples are obligatory to use, others are optional(?)
- the beat must be not longer than 1 min.
- only 1 SP, bouncing allowed.

That's it i think...
If someone with good english could arrange it correctly, that's will be cool!

Down with all of this so far. Will be submitting home made drum breaks and MS20 snippets for sampler food. I promise right here that there will be zero jazz samples submitted.

Gonna be fun.

SP-Forums MICROWAVE BATTLE

How it works:

1.Microwave Battle Thread opens Monday each week with a new thread in the Arena: "Microwave Battle #. . ." plus upload of samples to the SP-Forums Box account

Login: sp-forums @ mail.com
Password: Microwave

Entry in the battle and access to the SP-Forums Box is open to all.

(If the previous weeks winner has not started the new battle by 12 midday Monday Pacific Time, the new thread can be started by anyone)

2. Whoever starts the new battle creates a folder in the Box account named "SPMB#..."

3. Each participant may upload 1 sample to the Box account in the current battle's folder. Audio must be not longer than 30 sec. in wav or mp3, and can contain any material. You do not need to provide sample material to participate.

4. Post the sample's link to the battle thread and mark it with ! SAMPLE !

5. If the previous weeks winner(s) upload sample(s), elements of this/these must be used in some way. All others sample material is optional. No outside samples or instruments are permitted.

6. Microwave entries must be not longer than 1 min. Only 1 SP is permitted, bouncing to an external recorder is allowed.

7. Deadline for entries / opening of the Poll is Midnight Friday Pacific Time. The poll runs for three days. If winner(s) have not yet started the poll by this time it can be opened by anyone involved.

SO I gave a go at getting a spell-checked and formatted set of ground-rules done based on otbt's work (english is my first language and I tried to keep it simple... but if anything is still unclear/I've forgotten anything please tell me! I'll try to fix/clarify!!!)

Was gonna ask quickly - with the BOX... when a new battle folder is started ( SPMB#001 ) where it says under number 4 "Post the sample's link to the battle thread and mark it with ! SAMPLE !" does that mean that the folder in the box is linked, or does each participant post a link to the file they've uploaded in the thread? That wasn't so clear to me...

Would also like to suggest that multiple entries be allowed... what do peeps reckon?

All going to plan we kick off #001 just hours from now!! I got samples ready... synths no less :P (from a Folkways vinyl rip of the Dartmouth digital synthesizer)

OTBT - this whole thing was your idea to begin with ... i think you should start Microwave Battle 001!!

Ah yeah! Thank you Lif! :D

each participant post a link to the file they've uploaded in the thread?

That's what i assumed, each post the link to the uploaded sample.
Would also like to suggest that multiple entries be allowed... what do peeps reckon?

That's cool man, in the point 6 it will fit perfectly :)
No outside samples or instruments are permitted.

Agree with that, but what with the subsonic, how to consider it?

7. Deadline for entries / opening of the Poll is Midnight Friday Pacific Time. The poll runs for three days.

If we must have a winner on monday, that's mean that the poll must be for 2 days?
And here i think same thing as you've suggested with the start: if at 12 midday saturday there is no poll, it can be set by anyone. So on monday if the winner hasn't start the new battle before midnight, it can be done by anyone?

Cool concept! But for me I normally do most of the beatmaking in the weekends, so that's kind of a bummer if the battles start on mondays and close on fridays. I voted to start on mondays because I thought then it would close on mondays. Guess I didn't think it through thoroughly tho.
