Very Quick Q...
Moderator: TGN
matisyahu uses reggae to celebrate judaism. striper used heavy metal to celebrate christianity. and 50 cent uses rap to celebrate shootin' a man and selling crack to the very people he could be lifting up with him.
IMHO, whateva u want works (at least as long as there is freedom of speech). but i would much rather listen to something real and from the soul (religious or not) than something that just happens to sell records (50 coff).
however, DON'T sample billy graham, please. i 've heard his voice enough and you'd probably get sued anyway even if you didn't make money off it.
and no i don't listen to striper. man, i should let this go. the horse is dead, huh?

matisyahu is really ill, actually, makes a lot of very poignent social and political commentary...and while i believe that all organizd religions are a detriment to society that creates seperatism, bigotry, and violence-judaism is not a religion that has oppressed people for hundreds of thousands of years....its not that serious really,at least for a thread on a beat site about batteries, but what i meant was the christian right in this country and around the world has done everything in its power to hold down minorities and the poor..which obviously includes the very people that created not only hip hop,but all forms of music.so christian hip hop, electronic, rave music, whatever, really bothers me-christian rock is ineveitable and the fact that it exisits is a little easier to swallow.but what bothers me the most is that people are so blindfolded and unwilling to look at things rationally-99.9 percent of the people that have ever made world-changing contributions to society, whether they be artists, musicians, writers, political leaders, etc, were not christian, and that should tell you something.still,a huge ammount of christians would tell you that these people are in "hell" because they didnt accept jesus--pure insanity...
dont bother replying with "there no ned to talk about that here","take it easy",or best of all,"yikes!",lol...it's not like i'm heated or anything, but i'd rather make you think than nod your head anytime...,but let me step off the soapbox...
striper-a perfect example of christians trying to profit off of relgion
on another note,i didnt even realize the sp could run on batteries for some reason..i just got some...dope.

real talk^
two things
1. who cares when we strike a conversation, better here than never.
2. gotta disagree about the 99.9% not being christians and that they (all christians) believe non-believers go to hell. NOW if you stick fundamentalists after the word christian, then i would agree whole heartedly.

Just for the record. I hate religion, I hate the idea of religion, I hate the word religion, and most of all I hate purveyors of religion. I mean ALL religion. That being said. I also hate (and i mean HATE when i say it) to see someone picked on or singled out over something so trivial as an off topic comment that (harmlessly and unimposing) states their religious belief.
Adru I must have been hasty with my initial comment. What you posted seemed "heated" when I read it. It's just a common thing to see people fly into a rage at the mere mention of something religious (or anything debatable really). Or just turn into total dicks and flip to anti-wtfever mode. Especially on the internet. I was simply trying to diffuse the situation before it turned to a 10 page flame war. However entertaining that may have been, this is a good forum and we're adults. I come here to speak on gear and music and things the board is centered around. What falls outside of that is up to the admin/mod so it's not my place to say what belongs here and what doesn't. Personally it does seem a hell of a lot more polite to refrain such gross thread jacking. My 2 cents.
Back on topic... yeah batteries and shit, awesome.

hema
with respect, yo the thread is pretty dead anyway. batts go in the back, it gives power to machine, plug it in and bypass the the batts. what do you think comes next? a freakin' circuit diagram.
are you referring to me when you say threadjacking is impolite? anyway, who cares. it's sad people have so much hate in this world regardless what they hate. just to counter that deadweight idea. i try and love all things, i love people (not religion, but by hating what one believes you do indeed exclude them from your group) and i got love for ALL my sp-forum friends.

-thats what i was saying..my initial comment was just something i said sarcasically at 3 in the morning the other night-but since it got a couple responses, why not engage in a conversation?so what?its not "thread jacking"its people sparking a dialogue..
the last comments i'll make is martin luther king jr. is the only american christian i can think of that has done signifigant things to help bring change in this country-and white christian leaders at the time did all they could to try to reign him in and convince him that marches and protests were the wrong thing to do-and god would work it all out.and of course he was constantly monitored by the fbi and labled by the president as "public enemy #1" before being eventually assasinated.and notice i said "a huge ammount of christians believe.."when talking about the eternal damnation and hell thing.of course i know there are good christians out there..and despite the fact that it made a mortal man a god,(who in my eyes was a prophet & revolutionary, but not the son of any "god")christianity is based on good principles..kinda..they've just been twisted beyond recognition.
for those that would rather just work a 9 to 5,and spend the rest of your time in your bedroom making beats while not engaging yourself in whats going on in the world -preffering to close your eyes to things you dont think effect yout-thats all well and good, musics my escape,too..
but theres a war going on outside

i just meant talk is talk; we should let it out sometimes, regardless where we are.
by all means i often feel i might be more of the problem than the solution in the sense of work a 9 to 5 (or whatever hours) and go home, whateva. but where do we start, yeah? i do wonder if people care at all anymore.
the idea of religion is flawed but so is anything if you look at it hard enough. i try to see god in the world around me and feel we shouldn't criticize each other for what we believe.
dru i know you're a cool guy and i could prolly have a long convo with you. i'm sure a fat marley might even ease the tenseness
and as far as xXx goes so what if you cuss plus you're a christian, i just meant don't be the hypocritical type people that has led so many of us to question religion in the first place.
peace
