One very helpful thing I learned was that, EQ-wise, ear fatigue is usually a matter of too much hype between 2khz and 5khz because the ear is most sensitive to these frequencies, as per Equal-Loudness Contours (aka Fletcher-Munson Curves).
And obviously compression-wise ear fatigue comes from squishing a tune's guts out.
