No input is silly.
+/-4 semitone pitch?
but... if it took CF cards I would consider it

The input is the card reader aparently. Internal sounds are a added bonus. It's a product that gives you just enough for what you'll pay for it. It's not out to be a MPC, but could be a nice way to have some extra pads for throwing down a sample next to any SP. It'd be interesting if you get a sequencer with this, since it does have midi out, but I don't think it does.

this could be really cool if someone manages to hack the firmware. I would need to it have mutegroups for hihats etc before i would be interested

i use it for drumsamples only. i sample a loop or cuts from a record into the sp and then search for fitting drums on the mpx and sample them into the sp too. pads feel nice. can't say how long they will last. definitely has a lot of limitations. only 512 samples per card, limited pitch, no trim or decay, no sequencer, no mute groups... it's nothing that you really need when you already have a sp but i like it.

How long can the samples be?

from the manual: "You can assign up to 30 MB's worth of samples onto MPX8's pads at a time"
i don't know if 1 of the 8 samples can be 30 mb if the others are empty. i never tried to load up long samples.

If you decide to try and find out, let us know!

tried it. i loaded a 23mb song in and could play drums with the other pads over it. took about 2 minutes to load the sample though.
and i forgot to mention that the mpx has some background buzz going on. probably because it has an usb power adapter. the noise is not that loud but louder than my 303.

Sounds like you can use it through a noise gate of some sort then and nip that in the bud. Or just eq it to where it's un-noticeable. Thanks for experimenting on the sample length btw!
