hey Olerud, what format is your beat in? Winamp doesn't seem to want to play it for me....
edit: got it working...this is really nice man, i like how you've calmed the horns down and got the percussion nice and punchy over the top. good work

Wow Drewzle, you know how to pick a hard sample to work with!! It's mad how everyone comes up with such different stuff from the same two source sounds
This is the first time I've had to make a track without a trusty synth handy - I couldn't do it really so I had to sit there and make a synth instrument out of a snippet of the original sample. Making a tune with only two sounds is a lotta work but a lotta fun too...
This really put the 606 through its paces - the step sequencer (for the arp), almost every effect, the (dodgey) timestretch (although it works for the track!), swing function (68%), P606 (for the pitching) and all four tracks sweating hard. anyway enough crapping on... here tis
two sample technical battle.mp3 - 5.52MB
I tried to give it a japanese-style name too

It's working here man...
Olerud - that sounds mad! 1988 styles ftw
Damn I'm outta my depth when it comes to working with samples compared to some of the guns around here

this sounds sick man. i really like the dancey drum patterns, they got a nice skip in them. plus that filtered lead is nasty. the last minute or so when you integrate the horns is gold
ooops, didn't mean to pick a hard sample...if i win in the future i'll choose something friendlier and more open
i'm glad so many people have jumped in though. this battle will be a bloodbath!!

Wow nice entries so far!

Seeing the fresh stuff that people made out of this 'harder' sample, I'd say people liked the challenge actually.

I'm having difficulties with this one, but then again I'm a newbie anyways, so eey no reason to feel bad.

Thanks man I tried to get away from a house beat but eveything I do ends up being dancey - I can't help being a raver
This whole exercise has inspired me - imma gonna be on more battles now for sure - look out you guys when my flipping skills get better
