I don't think when you're doing your own thing you copy anyone, sure it's fine to be inspired and enjoy others music but it doesn't mean try to replicate their style of production and force things upon yourselves, even others. You dig your way into it, even it means experimenting for days/weeks/months/years+
I don't think it really matters anyway, people seem to get mad when you're inspired by others too, a certain sample or sound can even get called biting and dick-riding now
