First post, this is really awesome and its inspiring to know theres people out there, even on this forum, still making music with these techniques. I've never gotten into slicing up tape but I did record my first album on one of those Tascam 4 track cassette recorders and that tape sound will always be special to me.

Thanks brother, thats actually a fairly new track. I was talking about way back in the teenage punk days, my brother gave me a 4 track and we did work haha.

i have been messing with audio to midi free vst's in hopes to find something decent to run my tapes into, to create new and random noises to mix with the tape and synchronize, so far all I have really found is some vocoders and audio to midi drum driggering. I could set the thresh hold on sub sonic to just make bass lines for the kicks on drum loops, its sort of the same idea, but the software gets more interesting, bit speak is pretty cool, its not free though and fades out every 30 seconds, but it is the best I could find so far .

for bit speek: try with arcDev Noise Industries, he realised all his plugins for free now, once there aren't, there is some effect on that sense, i think it's name is resomatic vst, and some other interesting noise effects for free.
another free effect to run audio trough midi is kt drum trigger from smartelectronics. you can trigger drums (but also samples) with this.
