Last I heard, there was a little drama over whether he was sending impostors out to perform for him, perhaps because he was sick. This was from August this year:

I haven't really heard anything about it since. It all sounds like the usual obscure Doom behavior, to me. I'd be willing to bet he was onstage lipsyncing his own music just to confuse people. Or maybe he was in disguise as one of his own hype men.

The last drama was that he was canceling a show because he 'was in the hospital', some people said he had a heart attack.

But nah, the villain is fine and he is working on madvillainy2 with madlib and touring right now.

A statement about the rumors 'MF DOOM is dead':

DOOM RESPONDS TO RUMORS
Every day for the past month we've been hit up by people wanting explanations, statements, clarifications, and declarations about MF DOOM. Is he lip synching? (No. Listen to the videos on Youtube.) Is he an impostor? (No, but he did lose some pounds.) Is he in the hospital? (No, he's in his studio ... or if not there, you can find him in the pub with the grub stain.)

Reached earlier this morning at his home in Georgia, an alive and well MF DOOM issued this statement: "What up? I'm dead."

DOOM was in Los Angeles recently and recorded a few verses at The Bomb Shelter studio, where Madvillain, Quasimoto, YNQ, and Madlib classics have been made. Among the new joints recorded was one with him and Guilty Simpson over J Dilla's "Mash" and another over Dilla's "Lightworks". "Mash's Revenge" will be released on the album "B-Ball Zombie War" on October 2. Take a listen:

and a statement about the upcoming projects:

Madvillainy CD/LP 2004

+ Mass Appeal on the Madvillain Figure
+ Madvillain Figure by Kidrobot
+ "Monkey Suite" and Madvillain live performance on "Chrome Children" DVD/CD
+ "Monkey Suite" video released

Madvillain is MF DOOM and Madlib. "Madvillainy" CD is enhanced with the video for All Caps, and a full lyric book.

MF DOOM and Madlib are currently at work on a second Madvillain album.

check what I found.. some photos of the hotel room where Madlib record some of madvillain's tracks at São Paulo, Brazil.

"He took these photos himself in his hotel room where he worked on beats for Madvillain's "Strange Ways" and "Rhinestone Cowboy". These two and others were created using the only equipment available: a portable record player, an SP 303 and a borrowed cassette deck."

"Hotel studio, Sao Paulo."

Sorry to dig out this old post but I've never seen those pics before, great find. It's always cool to read something like that from dope producers, that they don't sit in front of their 10m long mixer in their million $ mansion with a whole story full of studio gear but put their focus on creativity instead.

PS: I have that exact same tape deck standing right in front of me 8)
