I notice theres a big husky zip disk in it. Maybe its a zip disk reader for storage.

if i remember well the picture is incomplete.
on the right side of this picture there are also an mpc4000 and an sp1200...
so this machine could be a disck storage of one of those samplers (or some digital recorders)...

correct, the picture [from the book Behind The Beat] is incomplete.
i thought the box was a cd burner.
also, i'd guess the cartridge is a stanton. i used to have those.

It's hard to tell cause there's quite a few needles styled that way, but I'd say either Stanton or Ortofon, and because the text on the side is bigger and more visible I'd say it's Stanton... actually with a little search here's what I found...

Stanton Trackmaster II-SK
here's the Ortofon that looks similar...

Ortofon Concorde Pro S

for burning beats to a cd to give to wolf or mc's. everyone knows he doesn't own a computer, so that's the only way to do it unless you're recording to cassettes.
dam funk used (still uses?) cd's to make beats like a multitrack, using a new cd for every overdub in the song
sorry, couldn't tell if that 'hmmm' was rhetorical or not

I have a copy of this book and all that I can say is it's a collectors piece...
actually the book company said that they will not be reprinted anymore, instead they are going to release a vol.2 of this home studio series... so if you have a copy of this beauties make sure you take well care of them because you are not going to find more of this anymore in the stores... after this news was revealed I saw some cats selling their copies on Ebay for almost $150!! lol I copped this book @ Fatbeats NYC for $30 or something similar...
I'm waiting for the 2nd one for sure... I'm pretty sure they are coming with something really dope.

^^Haha, you're lucky. It's on amazon now in bad to worse condition for like $475 and up. I wish I had got it. Vol.2 sounds interesting, but most of the producers I care about are already in Vol.1.. unless they have like RZA in there or something.

RZA is not in vol.1 but could be a great feature of vol.2 but since this is all about home studios I doubt they would included, I saw RZA's studio on Youtube and it's huge! he has a lot of samplers in there...
I also saw Redman's studio on MTV Crips loooooong time ago... I also have a couple of DVDs documental talking about crate digging and famous producers studios... damn... really nice DVDs I think that I'm going to see them again this weekend! it is Friday!!! YEAAAAAAAAAH!!
I'm talking about this DVD's

Re: What Turntable stylus?,what is that box above the SP606?
Yeah, I'm saying if RZA was in Vol 2 it would make it a little more worthwhile to me. I never saw the Deep Crates series yet. I'm going watch them while I'm cooking/eating today.
A running joke from Beat Kings for me is when I think it was Havoc was talking about keyboard producers lol. Now, when I see people on some weak tips, I'll be like "must be one of them keyboard negroes".

^^ ROFLMAO!
Deep Crates Vol.1 it is boring, Vol.2 it's much better IMO, but Beat Kings is SERIOUS!
So, what are you cooking/eating tonight? lol
