I recently copped this one, it is a nice compilation of Afro-Peruvian songs that (if you are Peruvian like me) you should know very well...
But for other people could be a really rare piece of music, I bought it because I'm not in Peru anymore and finding Peruvian records in the USA for me it's something awesome, I gladly paid those $20.

It looks promising... I have almost no (if any) Peruvian records in my collection but I would sure love to. Do you recommend this as an introduction?

If you want to try something different then YES, but if you want something more familiar (in sound) to you, then you should try "Black Sugar" they are a Funk group from the 70's, they also sing in English... now if you want to try something psychedelic but different in style to everything you ever heard before, then try this music genre called CHICHA.

I'm always looking for unfamiliar sounds. I love world music and all the different creative developments that take place all over, so I'll definitely check out all of your recommendations. I just read up on Chicha a little bit it sounds awesome, diggin what I hear so far. Thanks a lot man, and keep any recommendations coming, I'm always hungry for good music. :D

Go to www.secretstashrecords.com you are going to find this and a couple other Peruvian re-issues in there (they recently went to Peru looking for latin music and they "discovered" this and other nice records that for me are pretty common since I'm from there, but I'm sure most of people in here are going to find very exotic) you can listen some previews of the albums also so you can have an idea of what are you buying...
I'm just glad I found this records because it is music that I used to listen when I was there so brings me good memories...
Chicha is awesome to make some beats, that music genre it is a kind of psychedelic techno cumbia mix... so it has some pretty interesting sounds... a friend of mine love this records and almost all his beats are made sampling chicha... his name is Verdi Vinyl (http://www.myspace.com/verdivinyl)

If you buy this afro-Peruvian record you should read all the info about this genre that is in the back cover... you are going to find some pretty interesting info in there.

Nice to know there are more Peruvians out there rocking the SP's!

I was born and raised in Peru...

In this record the last track it is a good place to find Peruvian samples, cajon, caja, cajita, quijada de burro, etc!
