303 is good for buildin beats i never use the sequencer. i normally just use the resample function to build the beat. plus on the 303 u can resample while playin ur sample through the ext source. i wish the 404 did that.

What does this mean exactly? Does this mean that the external source doesnt shut off during resampling? So you can layer a bassline or whatever over your sample live? I'm confucious!

yeah fam if u got a keyboard plugged into the external source u can resample from there. when oscar mclure aka durlin lurt was in l.a. he showed me at the crib. and it bugged me out. but idk why the 404 didnt have this feature.

Maybe I'm a noob but what does resampling within the sp303 context exactly mean?
When I read the manual I notice that they talk about adding an effect and using the resample function so the effect becomes part of that sample.

But when I read these replies. It seems like you use the word 'resampling' to actually create and (re)record loops/beats/sounds and importing sounds from ext. devices. Can you help clear this up for me?

peace

Euclid made a video about resampling on the 303, it's on youtube. can't give you a link as it's banned here (youtube not his video haha). is really easy but better to get the process across in a video rather than words.

Man thanks alot for the reply. I found the topic you mention (beat tape vol.3) alot of cool info on this subject. But sadly Euclid has removd the video from youtube. So if anybody can further touch up on the subject, would be great.

all the usual cats are SO TIRED of this video (so, apologies all around), but this beat is made outta resamples. no sequencer involved, all triggered live by hand (well, fingers).

vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCbDX-eQvWo

there are a buncha posts about building shiz w/ resample, so look for that.

Nice vid. I see where you are going there. I still do have some questions.

do you resample a kick, drum, hihat all together on one pad? Or do you run loops of each on separate pads? Is there a method to use quantize in afterwards? Lets say you messed up resampling some kicks at the end of a recording. Can you fix this, or does this mean you must re-do it?

And what would be cons of working with this resample method?

peep this for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAuFRUyc3zE

but when u resample on the 303 or 404 resample and rec button . normally u suspose just resample a sound if u want to put an efx on a sound then put on a new button. but buildin beats with the resample techique is fun u gotta play ur sample chops for like 2 min. or however long u want. then add drums on top of sample chops for 2 min. or longer as well. repeat this process with whatever sounds u want to add. it takes a minute to learn this process but youll get used to it. its alot of trial error search youtube tutorial on there left and right. you have the power of the internet with all the answers there. so thats half the battle, but this should be a start for you.

why do you play the beat for two minutes or longer? i just usually re-sample a two bar loop. if you play it for a couple of minutes, do you worry about staying in time, or do you let it kinda flow into various tempo's throughout the track?
