wanted to see what everyone can recommend, i'm a documentary addict and music/art documentaries are my crack..just saw an incredible documentary about bill withers i know many of you would find as inspirational as i did...so here's a list of my faves:

There's a documentary about the Moog synthesizer available to watch instantly on Netflix called Moog. It's definitely worth checking out if you're into synths and stuff.

I recently watched The Great Ecstasy of the Sculptor Steiner and La Soufriere, two short but EXCELLENT documentaries by Werner Herzog, both available to watch instantly. Neither are music related but The Great Ecstasy has a Great Soundtrack.

Not trying to plug Netflix, but it is how I watch 90% of my films these days. I'm gonna check out some of these on your list as well.

this isn't really a documentary, more like a fake movie / doc - very, very cool movie about the whole producing issue - basiclly sj/producer of now ripping of the jazzfunkers of the yesteryears. 2parts, 20min total. CHECK IT!

I just watched a French cartoon called the illusionist and it was great. By Tati I think. I've seen crumb and that's nice. What about don't look back w bob Dylan, Woodstock the doc., deep crates, brainfreeze or dark days.
If you haven't seen dark days you have missed something incredible.

One of the dopest music related doumentaries I've ever seen is "The Devil vs. Daniel Johnson"-some of you have probably seen it..Daniel Johnson is an iconic figure out of Austin, Tx- he's a diagnosed schitzofrenic-but was basically completely "norma"l till he hit his early 20's-and was an incredibly talented artist throughout his adolescence.In the early 90's he started recording homeade tapes in a completely handmade little studio in his brothers garage he put together..And ended up with what some consider to be some of the best alt rock songwriting/songs of the 90's. If you've ever seen the many pictures of Kurt Cobain rocking a t-shirt with a crudely drawn alien saying "hi,how are you?"- that was the cover for Johnsons debut(i think debut) "album."
definitely worth watching, an amazing doc.

Not quite a documentary-but,but it has documentary elements intertwined throughout the movie-"American splendor" about the recently passed Harvey Pekar-who created the "american Splendor" comic book/graphic novel. Really good,beautiful movie starring Paul Giamatti and Pekar himself-along with his wife .

I know these 2 are kinda common knowledge for some..but if you havent heard of them,check em out.

As far as hip hop- "The Show" was kinda dope.
I'm gonna be getting on this netflix shit finally soon-I'll definitely check out some of these documentaries mentioned...I'll also try to think of some more good ones I've seen.Dope thead...

that "hi how are you" graphic has been painted on the side of a building in austin since the begining of time basically. its a crudely drawn black on white painting done with a wide paint brush. with all the graff covering austin that wall never gets touched. its been touched up a few times due to fading/weather or whatever. its one of those things that when people travel to austin they see it, and know it, but dont know how they know it.

edit: i just read that he painted the mural and was a pretty well established artist.
