a little question about quantizing

am i getting it right that when quantizing at 16(3) (sixteenth note triplets), every sixteenth note is split into three positions where my hits might fall?
so effectively this splits a bar into 48 clicks?
and 8 note triplets splits the bar into 24 clicks?

if not, please someone explain me the concept of triplets.

okay, found an answer elsewhere... in 16th note triplets every TWO sixteenth notes are split into three, so that makes for 24 slots. 8th note triplets makes 12.
I guess if i want 48 slots i can quantize to 16th note triplets in double time.
