will foot pedals and the tascam dp-02 work

i got a tascam dp-02, the one without the effects and i was wondering with all the inputs and outputs if foot pedals would work as effects processors. i think the tascam uses mono sends and returns. i trued using my sp-555 as an effects processor but the effects i returned were weak and doubled, sounded like everything had a flange on it. somone suggested getting different cables that were mono, just havent done it yet. the tascam uses trs (mono) i guess, what kinds of ins and outs do foot pedals use and does anyone work like this, with foot pedals for anyting, ive seen em in use with a mpc.

Close to all foot pedals use mono TRS jacks/plugs. Some, usually the better ones, have stereo outputs using two jacks. Using them for anything else but a guitar works just fine. I did so quite often, routing synths through guitar fx pedals to get dirt and mayhem. Maybe try one of those multi-fx things like Line6 POD, awesome for general use mainly because of really good sounding amp/speaker simulations.

so you think i could use a foot pedal with sends and returns or should i feed the sound through it. i wanna record a bunch of tracks then bounce em with effects that i control manually. but if it uses mono trs then i should be good. i might just have to get one. can use it in some way. be nice if i could find a good pitch and time stretch one since the sp sucks for that.

Using a send/return loop makes sense on effects you mix into the original signal, like delays, reverb and the likes. If you want the effected signal to completely replace the original, then use inserting (=routing through like you said).

If the DP-02's support so-called pre-fader sends, that works too, but it's a bit more complicated to explain.

Be aware though that realtime timestretching on an audio input is technically impossible and doesn't make sense anyways. The reason why a sampler can have realtime-controllable timestretching is because it "knows" in advance what it is gonna play and when it will end, as in, it already has the complete sample at hand. An fx box doesn't, it relies on whatever it sees at its inputs.

yeah, i understand time stretching, i was just using my imagination. i know they have pedals that you can detune with and change octaves. i think ill just have to get one and try it out.
