I have one, it simply rocks. I use it as my main sequencer.
Tight 16-track sequencer with all bells and whistles, two midi outputs, awesome sound quality, deep sound programming possibilities, the pads have aftertouch (!), and they're even HEATED (although that isn't intended, but a side effect of the PSU being located just under them), they get nicely warm after while! lol
Not to mention it's built very properly. Full metal case, stiff pads, smooth knobs. And yes hXc, the BNC light socket is a nice addition!

Them additional sound roms really are a plus. Which ones are in it? Be aware that the original XL-7 rom is has mainly techno/electro/dance/trance etc sounds, but you can always take the presets and tweak them to your liking. It has the famous E-MU Z-plane filters, some say they're the best sounding digital filters around. I wouldn't agree, but they definetely are very good, and with all the different filter types it's more versatile than many other synthesizers out there.

Check the NuElektroe.ogg, NuMelloe.ogg and NuGhey.ogg tracks. All three are XL-7 only, using the standard ROM which comes with it. One pattern, arranged live using track mutes, and a bit of live sound tweaking.

thanks for the heads up... its good to know you use one and seem to love it lonestar... the only thing thats worrying me is the durability factor.. the dood has it rack mounted which i read to mean that he is somewhat serious about music.. therefore he used it a lot.. im mainly worried about pads and knobs i guess... ugh im so skiddish about buying used stuff... he wants 450 for it but im 99% sure the same one was up for 300 or so before

better than roland D2, 303, 307, 505, korg ea1, em1 and yamaha dx200, an200 and rmx1 because they are simply the most complete of all those. and, maybe the better sounding too.
better than those there are only the emx (maybe) and the mc808 and the mc909. but, at least the last 2, they cost much more than the emu's...

if you find them at good price, pick them guys!

I mostly agree ella, with the exception that the Rm1x has the best sequencer of them all, but the sounds are pretty much useless for a high quality production. Cheesy, stale dance stuff all over in pretty bad quality. Drums are usable though.

I had an MC-303 too, it had the untightest and skippiest sequencer I ever used, and the sounds are just dated. The filters are pretty much a joke for me.

I haven't used an MC-909 but wish I had. At least they can sample, with chromatic playing of samples and all important things.
But don't forget the RS-7000, kind of an Rm1x on steroids plus a sampler.

And Tim, each of those additional roms alone is worth about 100 bucks, the mo' phat one (hiphop soundset!) is worth maybe 150. 300 eur is what I paid for mine (mint, 1 year used warranty), so I guess they're worth 300 too over there. 450 is a very good price, I say.
