Your workflow...

Which machine has the best workflow for you that you use... whether it be software programs, sp's, mpc's, ensoniq joints, emu joints, whatever. what machine has the best workflow for you?

to be honest, this machine is known to have good workflow but its very uninspiring to me. 2000XL. man, its boring to me. i know others will say "its not the machine, its you" or "you suck cock (lol)", but it really is a long process to chop samples and such. i also have a 2000, and when chopping on that... that is a piece of cake, so much easier for me. most people would probably be the other way around.

so what machine works best for you when it comes to having fun and staying interested while not taking too long? i think i know what the answers will be

SP-303 all day. But I've been known to bust some shit out with the quickness in multiple programs but it always feels like work instead of fun, even though I've been using computers since I was 5, I kinda hate them with a passion for a lot different reasons.

I've tried multiple programs and I got to say that I'm mostly comfortable with the sampletrak/sp-303/sp-404 or the new sp-555.
Like Dr Sample said,those machines are so fun to use where the Mpc's or Logic,Cubase etc...it feel like work and I'm bored quick.
Like Madlib said,it's how we utilize our brains and he did an amazing broken beat album,Dj Rels and this on the 303!!

tbh im yet to find the one that suits me... Im thinking about going to reaktor or max/msp so i can design my own :shock:

The 404 obviously has the best workflow for me, but thats because i know it backwards and i can just go fr it and not think bout what im doing. ALthough, i dont like being tied down to one workflow so ill be messing with software and other tools all the time, just constantly switching it up...

you know whats funny. for some reason, i dont know why, but i keep holding off getting a 404. its like i know i want it for what it offers, but i keep looking at other equipment that i realize wouldn't offer me some of the things i really want from the 404. it's like i haven't bought it, but i kind of know i should get it.

oh and on a side note... i find it funny that a sampler that is 400 dollars lasts longer than other samplers that are more than double the price. only time i ever heard of a sp202/303/404 breaking is the volume knob coming off a 202. must of been built by gods...... orrrrrr people who care about customers and their product. mpcs (for me) seems like they always want to visit VST Service. well, they can visit with a new owner soon.

i like the 2000xl and the 404. both have a good workflow and very inspiring to me.

the chopping on the 2000xl is ill soopa. just gotta get used to it. the only thing i didnt like about it was when i would hit the wrong button while chopping and end up at the main screen, and gotta start the chopps all over. and dont sleep on the resampling at different bit rates/sample depth.

idk, i always preferred chopping as I go... so having to figure out how many chops before i actually do isnt that fun to me. and yeah ive tried the resampling, pretty cool, but very slow. could go paint a whole room before it finishes a four bar loop lol

yeah, resampling an entire loop will take some time :lol:

. I only do individual drum hits.

I feel what your saying about the chopping, but i like the way it is. the 2000xl like many other machines has its own unique steez. There is something about it that just makes it an ill machine.

And what the hell are u waiting for? go out and pick up a 404

[color=blue]I'd have 2 say hands down the 303 gets my vote...from the feel of the pads, to the portablilty...I also rock with the MP2kxl

but i'm seriously debating letting that go 4 a downgrade to a 1000 or another MP with a CF card reader. cuz it just doesn't suit me n e longer [/color]

606 for me obviously; but here's why... I find the 606 to be the most insanely quick machine at making patterns, and since the music I make is pattern-based, it's the go fer sure.

The MC-505 is awesome too (16-track sequencer!) but it's many menus etc can make it slow to work with.

For live work the combo of SP and MC is hard to beat.

Why don't you build in a card reader in your 2kxl?

Why don't you build in a card reader in your 2kxl?

You can get a kit to install an internal media card drive on the 2000xl. You'd likely spend less money this way also. Check it out.

Also as far as workflow goes I can get going in FL Studio pretty damn fast. I've used it since version 3. Reason 3 is a close second, I gave up FL for it around the beginning of the year. I had a DR-202 for a long time and loved it's workflow. I hear the 202, 303, and 404 work pretty similar to the DR-202 so now I'm after a 404. Then maybe I can leave the software alone until it's time for the final mix anyway.
