wave converter question

Hey I just bought an sp-555.
I have it connected via usb to my computer.
The wave converter will not recognize the sp.
I have a card and cf reader that i just bought. they work fine.
But i was under the impression that i could access the a/b banks through the usb. Should I be able to do that? or do you need to use a card reader then move files over to banks a/b from the card via the sp?
Sorry if its a dumb question. I'm completely new to this.
