really startin to get annoyed, just got my sp404 and a 1 g lifetime cf card, used it first nite worked good sampled onto it, second nite none of my samples were playing fully, some none at all, even factory ones, take card out works perfect. return cf card, new one does the same thing the second time using it again

Press cancel+remain and the 404 will flash FNT and the external banks will light up, press one of the external banks and then rec button and everything will be erased of your card. You could also try initializing the internal memory banks of the sampler by turning it off then holding down cancel+remain+delete and turning the machine on, INI will flash on the display and the rec button lights up, press the rec button and the internal banks will be initialized/erased.
Lastly you could try downloading a new copy of the sp-404 firmware from Roland's site and loading it on your cf card into your 404. If that doesn't work you should peep this running list of ones that work:

2GB, 1gb, 512mb Ultra II Sandisk
JAMedia 2gb
2gb compactflash sandisk (red and blue)
Verbatim 2GB (green)
Digital Media - Simple Tech 64mb, 128mb
Xtra Speed 256mb
Dane-Elec 1GB
Sandisk Extreme 3 2GB
Digitex CompactFlash 1GB

Ones with issues:

Kingston CF/1GB (with the flower on it) -could have been a bad card
Lexar 2gb premium series 80x -could have been a bad card
Lexar 128mb 8x

hi there!
Im trying for several weeks now to find a compact flash compatible with 404, but with no luck. Today, though, I found two kinds of verbatim cards: 128mb and 256mb. Does anyone know if theyre comp. with sp404? I cant find any info here... They are really cheap(about 2$ each)but still Id like to know before risking it ;-)

thanx!

I'm not sure about the cards you're asking about (i'm new to sampling) but here's a really good deal on a sandisk 1gb card:

I just received mine last week and it works great!
