hey i am totally new to midi use but just bought some cables today and have a question for you midi gurus out there:
so i have an sp 404 and an ef 303 (groove effects/step bass & drums), my friend has a mc 303 and my other friend a micro korg

besides setting up one main midi clock, which i think i can figure out, what other things should i set up between them and how? any help would be greatly appreciated if im not being clear sorry, i just want to know some good uses for midi connection between the above mentioned equipment if anyone is familiar with them

the one setting clock should be set to Master, all other to Slave

chain the MIDI cords from the Ins to the Outs,

make sure all are sending/receiving on the same MIDI channel

- then you're set, though you may have to fiddle with some MIDI settings for each box relating to how they start their sequence...just check their manual

so far i set the sp 404 to tempo sync with the ef 303 on int and sync out which basically has me setting the tempo from the 303 to control the tempo of the 404, which works great. but if i set the ef 303 to slave it says i cant play the step modulator from the button - not sure if anyone knows that machine, but what will play that step mod. (its a main feature) -- this instance would be with my buddys mc 303 coming in and prob being the master bpm clock

also we;re thinking of our set up being mc 303out>m audio out>ef 303out>sp 404

does that make sense or is there a better way?

sorry for the dumb questions , but any response helps

m audio? you mean microkorg?

that's how i would route it too, not too sure about the EF303...if the step sequencer requires it to be Master then you may have to rearrange the routing, but i'm sure there'll be a setting you can change in it, might take a bit of messing about to find it though

that setup seems fine though

yeah it worked out right, it was actually pretty easy, except for awhile the mc 303 kept triggering a hi hat line on the ef, but i turned off a couple things so it would jsut start the step sequencer when a pattern is played on the mc and be the proper sounds coming through ef
i could just be tripping but it seemed like i had less control over some of the effects
