I thought I’d share a bit of a backstory for the inspiration for this little collection of beats.
Without too much details, childhood was pretty unstable and chaotic.
Entertainment was always the source of escape! Movies, music, cartoons, drawing, comics and books! What I loved about Saturday morning cartoons was the constant, the reliability, the predictability and safety! Making these beats and rewatching old episodes was made with more than nostalgia, it felt warm and comforting at times, yet painful at others, not because of my experiences but the fact that childhood really is fleeting when you look back on it!
I thought it would be a nice touch to have an actual kids drawing for the cover so I got my daughter to draw it, although it did take her like 3 months to get motivated! Hope there’s a few old buggers who can enjoy the snippets of the old cartoons!
As part of the process I set a limitation of using material from S1: E1 of each cartoon as the main element of each track, like a loop or
synth sound, pitched and played on the SP 404's chromatic mode.
Thanks for listening. I hope this can be a trip down memory lane for those who grew up around the same time.
