I thought it was the privilege of the person that won the last battle to get to set the rules and supply the samples for the next? Or am I wrong and it's always a free-for-all?
The whole point of the rules, I thought, are that they create a relatively fair playing field for everyone else, and maybe even a challenge (in particular for some, apparently), to create a beat with the supplied samples under the same approximate parameters and so all can be judged on the same.
It doesn't say anything about acapellas...so you can assume no acapellas. It specifically says SP or, at least, a small hardware sampler...so you can assume no Koala. But if you are simply unable to create a beat without the use of an app, nor without zhuzhing it up with some rapz over the top, and cannot enter into the spirit of the competitions, knock yourself out. It ain't *that* serious.

As far as I can see, the only crybabies are the ones upset that they hadn't been allowed to use their usual crutches. Personally, I like to abide by and respect the requirements of the person setting the competition...but that's me.

Well, I bought an SP202 in '99, so I doubt it. Altho, to be fair, I didn't 'make beats' on it back then...just used it for loops in conjunction with a DR202 for about 6 years.

Well, if you CAN make a beat without apps and acapellas, and the current competition requires such, just get on and do it then, instead of always asking for special exemptions for yourself and then not bothering when you get turned down.

Sorry, did I upset your boyfriend?

It's probably just the way I come across in type. Dry english humour etc. That and I'm an arsehole.

Well, I did say, after trying to convince you that rules help to keep the playing field flat for everybody, that, if you had to, you could do what you wanted and that it didn't matter a whole bunch ("But, at the same time, whatever, init. Use fruity loops for all I care."). Ignored the acapella request because, well, "Give 'em an inch...". 'Twas all done with a bit of gentle ribbing i.e. Koala app softies and colouring books...which was apparently taken to heart. So who's grumpy?

SORRY FOR THE DISREPEC', BLUD.

So…. What do think about the new Serato sampler addon for 404MKII?
Isn’t k0ala integrated with SP mkII too?
essentially both are addon to SP.
Am I right?

I get NO fruit loops battle pack beats
Also, MITT, how do you bounce your stuff out? Hardware only? Or do you multitrack into a D eH W ?

I really don’t understand the hate you have for k0ala. I understand the “rules” but I also feel like its a deterrent. 2011 era SP forums way of thinking but I respect the rules and you should be able to make them as the last ‘battle’ winner.
What I’m trying to say, is that its not the 2010’s anymore and the more people contributing/visiting/integrating with the site is better for the community

Also I upgrade my ps3 firmware and it bricked my console-thx for nothing

Actually, yes. I use the 303's pattern sequencer and then play everything thru VinSim or EQ13, record stereo out onto a Boss MicroBR thru its "mastering" suite limiter, render it and then transfer the WAV to my pooter over USB. I usually have to put it into Audacity after that but ONLY to nip out any farts from swapping patterns since Boss, in their wisdom, didn't put a song sequencer or queued pattern swaps on the 303 and my timing's shit...but that's literally all it's used for...and even that makes me feel dirty.

Like I said, I don't consider the MkII a 'true' SP - Roland just kept the form factor to cash in off the SX's popularity...but said form factor actually seems to be a detriment to it since it has so many, ahem, "features" and there are so many button combos and so much menu diving needed to use it. If the P-6 had had the f-fac of an SP, that would've been a truer successor, imo.

Sheeeeeeeet. Let's just change the name of the forum to the whateverforums.com then.

My main beef with Koala (and most modern hardware samplers) is my firm belief that older hardware will always be superior to software, in both sound and use. But mainly, whenever there's a post or thread about samplers ANYWHERE (youtube, reddit, wherever), and no matter the subject or the OP's enquiry, you always get some bell-end pop up to bang on about Koala. It's a cult. It's like being hassled by JWs or some sheeat. "Have you heard the good news about Jesus Chr- I mean - Koala sampler?". Like, calm down - it's just an app.

Convenience is the enemy of creation.

Not so long ago there were very strict rules. Before SP-USERgate, plenty of people would take part but even MS-1s weren't allowed, lol. But, like I said, if people need the crutch of making music with their eyes and not their ears, only for everything to end up sounding like it was made on a 202 anyway (hyper-lofi with off-kilter out-of-time drums), so be it. I even told him he could use what he wanted, lol, so I dunno what y'all wanted from me. I just took the piss a bit into the bargain, in my usual inimitable style, ruffling his and Woe-Is-Me's feathers.

Should I ever win again (which, with my gift of making friends, is all but guaranteed), for the following comp I'll be sure to simply post "Yeah whatever" with a link to Ultimate Breaks n Beats on youtube.

Hey everyone!

It's been a while since I’ve been around here!
I dropped by the forum yesterday and decided to join in.
Thanks for the source material — there's a lot of great stuff to work with!

MIIT: have you had a play with the MK2? I was 404og for like 10 years and workflow seems pretty much the same but with less workarounds, quicker processing and the bonus of sound generator and chopping!
