so. the notebook i use when making music has lyrics , but is also full of info for the 404 settings for any particular track: the pattern bank & pad numbers, the sample banks i trigger over top of that, what FX i'm using, the card its on...the BPM...notes for guitar chords, what effects on what pads at what time? blah blah blah. the notebook is full of hacks and scratches, and i can't make sense of most of it anymore.

so i made a flowchart. i'll test it this weekend.

i thought i'd share it w/ y'all, even tho its gonna make me look like a hyper-organized douchebag. its not the case (at least the hyper-organized part). i just need something simpler that catches all the info for the sampler, given that it won't remember any song settings itself, and there's only so many notes you can make.

here's a link to the PDF of it. let me know if you can open it, or what you think.

enjoy: faunaflage's fabulous four-oh-four flowchart!

http://www.box.net/shared/qhbpysy2o8

PS: will also work w/ 303s, or any other 12 pad SP.

what i do is write "D1, D2, B1" on the appropriate pads (for drum one, drum two, bass one, etc.). could use a highlighter to show what pads have the FX on them.

donno. see if it does anything for you. may help.

that's cool man
i've made similar, though more informal charts for my own routines.
this template could definitely come in handy, i think i'll print a few of them off to use for next time
cheers!

let us know how this works for you

thats really nice ! One then u may want to add is a few sets of 3 circles for the knobs. So you can mark little notches on them to remember your exact effect setting.

that's a good idea! i find i use the fx in a 'flow' kinda way....but what you suggest is exactly how i remember the settings for my delay pedal (four knobs w/ notches like clocks). so could work.

used the cheat sheets this weekend. they work pretty well for the way i write...everything gets confusing when you've got different pieces using the same pattern bank (so, one track on patt.bank J, pads 10, 11, 12 at 120 bpm, another on patt.bank J, pads 1, 2, 3 at 96 bpm, or whatevs). just a fast shorthand.

anyway - you can't nail creativity to the floor and document everything, but keepin the organization together allows me to create a bit easier.

hope these work for someone else too.
