Ah right, so it must be "A Bay of Blood" where I'd heard the name before cause I've seen that one. Wasn't aware he was an influence on Argento though, and yes, I can totally see similarities in style some of those trailers. Since he produced stuff in the 70s as well, I'll defiitely take a look at those movies although I'm generally not a fan of 60s stuff (with exceptions of course).

maybe try to watch Schock (1977) first, the ost is very progish and noir-ambient, and the movie is nice (i don't know if it exists in english version).
A bay of blood is strange and a bit confusing as i think that Bava intention was (also) to make fun of zombies/contaminations movies:) but is worth to watch too
Rabid Dogs has nothing to do with typical Giallo, iit's more a crime story, execept that some unsane atmosphere is however there and the film is powerful

for the therm Giallo: in italy this is more something to relate to french film Noir, a sort of crime story,police movies,mistery, etc to sum it up; Argento's or Bava movies we call it Thriller (but it's also true that some call it Giallo all'italiana -italian giallo- ); as Noir in french means Black, Giallo means Jellow in Italian as in early 1900s an italian publishing house sorted out some mistery/crime story books with that color wich became very famous.

one curious thing about the music is that maybe for an anglophone it tells nothing but sounds, but the vocoderish refrain says repeteadly "p-a-u-r-a" wich mean fear in italian...

I knew the term "Giallo" came from the Italian word yellow which was used on crime and thriller novels in Italy, but I had no idea the vocoding in the Goblin track was "p-a-u-r-a" or even what it meant - very cool!

I used to think it was made up just for the vocoder effect

BTW, I haven't seen this one yet because I'm waiting for a Blu-ray release before I see it, but it looks every bit as good and stylish as Tenebrae, and just like Tenebrae has a great soundtrack!

It's by Carlo Vanzina and looking through his filmography I'm sure I've seen a few of his movies some time ago but under different titles. This one, "Mystère" from 1983 looks very stylish indeed, and the soundtrack sounds just as good as it looks so I can't wait to see it when it gets released in full aspect ratio in Full HD on a Blu-ray. I've had to put off seeing it because the upload to YouTube is really shitty quality and not the right aspect ratio, it would totally destroy what is obviously a very classy peice of work so I am prepared to wait before I see it. I know I'm going to like it and buy it anyway, especially after seeing the video the "David From Lille" guy made about it. I've even been tempted to buy the poster and frame it, give it pride of place in my flat (seriously)!

Vanzina is well know for those cinepanettone films (litteraly means: panettone cinema=very commercial movies for christmas time -panettone is one of the most typical cake for christmas in italy-), almost every year he came out with some of those hypercommercial comedy movies...but in the beginning he made some cool movies, i don't say that i like his work but he's better in the beginning of the 80s

Thanks for the heads-up, I did notice he did comedies as well when reading-up about him, but "Mystère" also known as "Dagger Eyes" and "Murder Near Perfect" is definitely not a Christmas Comedy - won't be watching any of that Christmas Comedy stuff.

For me his giallo/mistery movies don't worth that much also due to some mediocre actors or their general bad playing or the so not well written scenarios etc but i can see your point in comparing Tenebrae stylistic style/photography/colors with those films by Vanzina

Sadly he's ran out of new Giallo releases to review (for now at least), no doubt due to those dumb, politically corrected fat-bitch-feminist types eroding our freedom of expression, empowered by society-damaging social media.

I swear, if I'm ever financially stable enough, I'll produce the most controversial and misogynistic Giallo that ever existed (I'm being perfectly serious). I'd shoot it in a country free from censorship so the law couldn't touch me, and I'd retain all rights so that I can put it into the public domain after first cashing-in on the initial rush from collectors due to those dumb feminist and politically corrected types helping me publicise it due to it's alarming controversiality!

Still, the good news is Argento has a new Giallo in production right now (yay), and there's 127 Gialli listed on that site, a whole bunch of which I wasn't even aware of, so I'm quite happy today!

The way I rate a director is by their finest work, and Argento has produced more than one of the finest Giallo movies out there. Hopefully it'll be killer, but even if not, I'll still be glad he produced another Giallo and not hold it against him.

So anyway, "Let's talk music", cause it's a bit like ABBA and their new album (which personally I am appalled at). "Don't Shut Me Down" proves they still have endlessly more talent than everyone else in the charts, but the rest of the album is an absolute joke as far as I'm concerned. The only consolation is that "Don't Shut Me Down" alone made the comeback worthwhile for me, even if they can shove the rest of the album where the sun don't shine.

I was right about YouTube and the rest of the music industry trying to burst ABBA's bubble though. I knew they'd launch an assault on everyone's ears by launching a new Adele album and thrusting it into everyones face whether they listen to the whining bitch or not, in fact I predicted that on this very forum, and was spot-on. The good news is that ABBA's new album (bad that I feel it is) still kept that whining bitch Adele and Sheeran from the number one spot when Voyage launched.

Hopefuly this will be a lesson that modern, head-in-the-clouds 'totally forgettable download' artists like Adele and Sheeran will never forget. The lesson to be learned here by Adele, Sheeran, and the manipulative music industry assholes behind them, is that it's not very wise to have your head so fucking far up your own backside that you actually think you can out-do ABBA in any shape or form. Not in talent, not in ability, not in any musical area.

Actually I take a little of that back, because I do also like "Keep An Eye On Dan" and it grows on me each time I hear it, has nice tense sounding chord structure, so that's two that made the comeback worthwhile for me - but that's still a really poor statistic for an ABBA album.

I don't know it but I understand the enthusiasm, always cool and often very interesting to see what's hidden inside a record sleeve!

Was just listening to this tune and the sound has that old vibe to it perfect for sampling, but the vocal sings over most of it so sadly not much left to play with for sampling.
