Any Mini Kaoss Pad Users?

Post by ColeRockLee »

These things seem to go pretty cheap and they look fun as hell to use. I was curious if the pitchshifting fx on it are enough to make up for the crap pitching on the SPs? Checked out some youtoobes but nothing shows the pitchshifter off enough to give me an idea. My plan was to resample through the kp to get multiple notes from the same sample. Maybe use it to slow loops down too. I dunno what's possible though I've never had a chance to mess around with any of the Koass pads.

I have the kp3 and the pitchshift is almost the same as my sp606(maybe a little better)...but the loop feature is very nice!Which sp you have?

The pitch shift of the Kaoss Pad 3 is definitely better than the SP-606 one, but in extreme cases it will start to sound both robotic and noticeably 'kaoss pad' like.

I think the Mini Kaoss Pads do sort of have the same pitch quality, but you might want to try one before buying. I got turned off by the 'Kaoss Pad' sound actually, it's not exactly a clean pitch you'll get.

I know there are some folks rocking the Kaossilator. Anyone rock both mini KP and the Kaossilator?

I want one of the two, but probably not both. Problem is, the Kaossilator looks like an excellent fun tool for on the go and all that, but I won't be able to use it as an FX box hooked up to something else.

They should have really made both with an internal mic or line in to take it to the next level!! :(

Perhaps what I really should buy is an SP-404 though. What's to say, a classic form of gear lust right here yo... :p

I used to have both, but I can’t find my KaossSynth mini. I don’t know where I misplaced it, but it’s no worries. I’ll probably buy the pro version later.

Old Thread, Yeah?

Anyway I use Mini Kaoss Pad 2S for Pitchshifting / Resampling.
Actually I use it also as a field recorder (yeah, I had to modify Mic on/off Switch to Toggle switch, which also cuts sound from internal speaker), but now it works great as it should from the beggining (Sucker Korg, please think twice).
Pitchshifting as a part of Looper / Pitch FX is not so useful, because you are limited to (about?) 10 seconds for a loop at slowest BPM.
Also Sampler is limited to 10 seconds sample
If you use longer sample in Player and play it as a Loop (it is possible), there is a gap between End and Start of a sample.

BUT
You can record any Line in / Mic in as a master recorder + MP3 or Wav sample from your folder (Player) + Master effect
(there is limit 2 hours or size of your card for one file that could be recorded in Master record mode)
You can also pitchshift any file used in Player to +/- 30%
Pitchshifting sounds great, It pitches file and also changes speed of it...

So you can e.g. record Line In with LPF, play that recording with slower speed and play some drums over it and record this performance with a master reverb.

The only pain in the ass is the navigation through the menu..

I have the older one, but I never know exactly which effect of the 99 I’ve selected. I guess I need to just print it out at the library. But at least the 2s has the tiny LCD screen. But a KP3 is probably on my list. But if I find a 2s, I’ll check it out!

I have also the older one, I use it mostly as a looper/slicer and the big knob for FX depth - switching between dry signal and looped phrase.
This way I can add some variations when I play some patterns from some device...
And Phaser & Delay (FX43) is actually great one, so much better on the old one.

You don't need to find 2S as I wrote, You could operate the same way with original Mini Kaosspad 2 (because the sampler function is actually not so useful with 10 seconds limit) and anything other should be the same on original Mini Kaosspad 2 (at least according to manual)...

The gratest improvement on the second generation of these is the recording function..

BTW. You can power it from any powerbank or mobile phone adaptor if you make your own USB to (....plug) cable (as I did).
