I've been reading this thread, along with a couple of others on the forum. I've read about the various diffs but I wanted to know about the comp/vs in particular.

The way that people describe the comp is actually something I'm looking for. Is there a way to apply comp to pads that already have the vs pre-baked into them w/ the remain function and have it work exactly the same as the 404og?? Or maybe not the technique I just described, but some sort of layering that would require an extra step or whatever? I'm sure it can be done, but the question would be whether or not it sounds as good as the OG.

For example, what if you apply the vinyl sim to all pads that you wanted, then resampled those into a new pad, and then apply compression to that new pad?

Your idea makes sense, but I think I'd bake in the compression first then add the vinyl sim crackle and flutter. If you do it the other way around, the crackles can potentially fuck with your compressor.

That said, try it both ways. Or get your hands on an OG to use with your SX.... I found a used OG for $200 recently!

never bought (or sold) a 404 more than 150€ (for an OG)
And it should be less and less since they tend to be unusable after years.

You guys in US D.Trumped prices.

Can I drag the files from my Sp404og and put it inside the Sp404sx card to use the samples?

Doesnt the 404sx sound better than the 555? With the 555 having more functionality... if not now I’m wishing I got the 555 instead
